This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy civil engineering team managing coastal flood and erosion risk on the south coast.
Coastal Partners provides a Coastal Risk Management Service to Havant Borough Council, Portsmouth City Council, Gosport Borough Council, Fareham Borough Council and Chichester District Council that reduces the risks to people, and the developed and natural environment from flooding and coastal erosion. This area includes three major harbours of significant environmental importance and over 246km of coastline.
This year-long placement offers the opportunity to work and gain experience within the Service. Working within the Major Projects Team, alongside engineers and construction management professionals, you will be involved in the construction of our multimillion-pound projects at Southsea and around the north of Portsea Island. You will have a direct role in the supervision on site where you'll be undertaking checks of the contractor's work, including use of total stations and GPS surveying equipment to ensure everything has been built to specification. You will work with our Geomatics Team in the preparation and undertaking of topographic surveys. There will be opportunities to be involved in the design phase of several projects across the Coastal Partners portfolio and those of our partner authorities.
We are looking for suitable applicants, currently studying for a civil engineering related degree to undertake a 12-month industrial placement. The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the requirements of an Engineering Technician and be willing to travel to sites within the Partnership area. The post will commence in May/June 2025. Graduates, those not currently studying a civil engineering related degree, and those who will have completed their studies by the time the placement starts will not be considered for this position.
