We are looking for an individual with a passion for the natural sciences to join our team as an Intermediate Aquatic Biologist in our Edmonton office. This position offers an interesting variety of office and field work on a diversified range of projects that include biophysical inventories, environmental impact assessments, and monitoring of environmental effects. Although the position will be based in Edmonton, AB, we have opportunities to work on projects located in Southern Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and the northern Territories. Travel is anticipated in this role.
Specific experience in wetland assessment, vegetation, and soil classification is of particular interest. The successful applicant will be a professional biologist and bring experience that experience to our public and private sector clients. As well, this position can offer a diverse range of projects that include biophysical inventories, environmental assessments, and monitoring of environmental impacts.
Responsibilities:
A requirement of working for Tetra Tech is that you are at least 18 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada without sponsorship (a copy of a valid work permit may be required).
To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required. As this position may be serving clients that have vaccination requirements for site access, we may be confirming your eligibility to comply with this requirement.

Responsibilities:
- Conducting biophysical assessments with a focus on fisheries and aquatic habitat.
- Completing permitting and approval requirements for fisheries assessments.
- Leading the development of accurate scopes of work, safety plans, cost estimates, project plans, schedules and deliverables for high quality project execution.
- Working closely with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and technical experts in biology and environmental sciences.
- Contributing to identifying and securing new business opportunities and marketing activities.
- Contributing to the production of top quality and winning technical proposals for large, complex environmental projects.
- Developing and maintaining a presence as a biological sciences practitioner through participation in professional and sector organizations.
- Project Management and project execution.
- Mentorship and training of junior team members.
- Inspiring a team of Environmental Consultants to high standards of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Staying current on general trends in the technical field and market sector provincially and nationally.
- Minimum of a B.Sc. in biology or ecology (advanced degree(s) would be deemed an asset).
- Current registration with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists.
- Successful applicant must have worked a minimum of 8 years in the environmental sciences including aquatic surveys, impact assessment, permitting and regulatory approvals, habitat offsetting design, post construction effectiveness monitoring, and environmental monitoring.
- Proficient technical writer.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with clients, regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and the public.
- A strong track record in Health and Safety management on projects.
- Extensive knowledge of Alberta environmental regulations.
