Through integration with other expertise in urban and natural catchments, we work with a range of stakeholders to help clients and communities to develop solutions that deliver environmental performance sustainably and efficiently.This is a great opportunity for an experienced and imaginative water quality modeller to join an ambitious expert team in a role that will provide plenty of scope for technical development and career progression in the coming years through existing contracts and client relationships both in the UK and overseas. You will work within a core of scientific and engineering experts, supporting a range of clients from the water sector, primarily, but also the energy and infrastructure sectors. Together, we will identify pollution sources, pathways, and impacts on sensitive receptors and develop both engineered and nature-based solutions. The role encompasses scoping, data collection, development, execution, and presentation of multi-dimensional environmental water quality models. These models simulate the behaviour of reservoirs, lakes (Loughs and Lochs), as well as transitional and coastal waters. About You You should possess a degree in physics, mathematics, or engineering. Ideally, you will have experience in consultancy and/or the water industry and either have attained or be working towards chartered membership in a relevant professional institution. As an experienced professional, you are expected to work independently and with minimal supervision, with extensive relevant experience that includes the following: <ul> <li>A good understanding of numerical modelling equations and discretisation, 2D mesh generation</li> <li>Experience using numerical modelling software such as MIKE, Delft3D, OpenFOAM, ADCIRC, and Telemac, with proven applications in relevant fields. This experience might include modelling hydrodynamics, multiphase flows, particle tracking, advection dispersion, water quality, and chemical processes. Ideally, you will also have a basic understanding of physico-chemical water quality and the associated regulatory standards for fresh and/or marine waters.</li> <li>Experience with Linux,scripting languages such as Python/R,MIKE ECO-lab would also be an advantage.</li> <li>Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience to liaise with a broad range of stakeholders where you will be working closely with clients, and other professional staff across multi-disciplinary business groups.</li> </ul>We are proud of our culture. The Sustainable Water Management business operates as a national team and work is shared around the team in a fair and transparent way, ensuring project allocation takes into account personal interests and development aspirations and much as practicable. A little more about your role... We are looking for passionate professionals who have a strong experience working with Lead Local Flood Authorities and have a competent understanding of key legislation and policies such as the Flood and Water Management Act, The Land Drainage Act and the National Planning Policy Framework (in relation to flood risk and drainage). With preferred strengths in flood risk management and sustainable drainage you will ideally have familiarity with other water environment disciplines to aid delivery of more complex projects for a range of clients. The appointment would be at Senior or Principal grade, depending on experience. We can be flexible on location within the UK and offer a true hybrid work arrangement. You will contribute to a diverse range of projects but the main focus of your work is likely to be delivering and taking technical lead roles on flood risk management projects for local authorities which can include large range of projects including; flood investigations, developing flood strategies, helping deliver solutions for flood alleviation, natural flood management, sustainable drainage master-planning, and supporting the planning process to ensure the most sustainable solutions are achieved for the water environment. Your work will be varied but will include some technical, management and commercial responsibilities. Sharing your technical expertise and mentoring others in the team will also be an important part of your role.
