Boston Harbor City Cruises is seeking a Marine Technician for our operation in Boston, MA. Salary Range: $25-30/hour About You: This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences' RESPECT Service System. About the Opportunity: The Marine Technician position is a shore side-based position. The qualified candidate supports a compressive program of maintenance and repair of the passenger vessels in the City Experiences' fleet of vessels. These vessels range in size and construction, are USCG inspected, and powered by mostly diesel engines. This position is based in Charlestown, Massachusetts for the Boston and North of Boston based fleet, and Quincy, Massachusetts for the Boston and South of Boston based fleet. Essential Duties &amp; Responsibilities: <ul><li>Perform preventative maintenance on diesel engines and other machinery found on passenger vessels. This includes but may not be limited to diesel main engines, diesel auxiliary generators, water jet propulsion equipment, marine reduction gears, hydraulic systems for steering, cranes, and thrusters. </li><li>Ability to perform heavy machinery maintenance and repair work including engine valve gear timings, injector changes, cylinder head and liner overhauls. This may also include machinery rigging in and out of vessels. </li><li>Perform water jet maintenance and repair while the vessel is in the water or in dry dock.</li><li>Perform vessel and dockside plumbing repairs to pipes, valves, tanks, and pumps. </li><li>Perform vessel electrical troubleshooting and repair of generators, motors, control systems, sensors, and related wiring. Also, low voltage and battery powered starting, control, electronic control, and monitoring systems. </li><li>In dry dock repairs at the shipyards of the vessel drive lines, water jets, couplings and shafts supporting shipyard personnel and/or the Port Engineer. </li><li>Documentation and monitoring of maintenance and repair work through the company web based and structured maintenance and repair program. </li><li>Participate in computer-based monitoring and input of maintenance tasks, work hours, and company training and documentation programs. </li><li>Work the hours and shifts assigned by the Port engineer.</li><li>Other marine maintenance and repair work either dock side or on the vessels that the Port Engineer may require.</li><li>Participate in achieving the maintenance division goal of consistent vessel reliability through proper maintenance and repair practices. </li><li>Additional job duties assigned. </li></ul>Requirements &amp; Qualifications: <ul><li>Unlicensed engine room machinery technicians if having prior training and experience on motor vessels such as work boats, tugs, fishing vessels, passenger vessels, or vessels of the U.S. Armed forces </li><li>Diesel or heavy machinery mechanics from a trades institution, U.S. Armed forces, or other industries that require hands on repair of engines and engine related systems. </li><li>Basic computer skills as well as excellent communication skills. </li><li>Strength and agility to safely lift over 50 lbs., and move about a moving passenger vessel, work in often tight spaces and around moving machinery. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. <ul><li>Manages all aspects of the project, including construction, budget and cash management for a single assigned project to ensure compliance with the project contract and owner needs.</li><li>Develops and manages the project schedule, pay estimates, project procedures, staffing requirements, and equipment resources needed to complete accurate and timely project</li><li>Assesses initial project contract and supporting documents for completeness. Works with owner to resolve specification, contract conflict and scheduling issues.</li><li>Coordinates with project personnel to accurately update the project construction schedule and adjust for any change orders. Works with Area Manager to coordinate any change orders identified in production cost or schedule.</li><li>Creates and presents monthly cost and revenue forecast and reports to Flatiron leadership.</li><li>Develops internal and external working relationships with Flatiron supporting departments and project Owner to support the project work plan and payment schedule.</li><li>Reviews and approves all internal and external media news releases regarding the project.</li><li>Operates as main point of contact for all third-party stakeholders, including landowners, local business owners and government agencies that need to be engaged during the project.</li><li>Facilitates project safety reviews and procedures by conducting daily and weekly safety checks at the project site to ensure compliance with project and owner safety programs.</li><li>Coordinates with project superintendent to identify staffing and equipment needs for efficient and effective project production.</li><li>Collaborates with internal legal counsel to resolve any project disputes.</li><li>Leads project closeout procedures, finalizing contract paperwork, obtaining retainages and working with management to resolve any project claims. Leads project debrief cycle to review all aspects of project work and completion.</li><li>Maintains knowledge of Company values and strategic plan.</li><li>Perform additional assignments per management's direction.</li></ul>Responsibilities: <ul><li>5+ years' experience in construction, engineering or scheduling required.</li><li>Experience in managing personnel required.</li><li>Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field a plus. AIS is looking for Marine Biologists (At-Sea Monitors) to work at sea collecting and recording data and biological samples for the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFCS) aboard commercial fishing vessels. The primary goals of Northeast federal fishery observation programs are to provide quantitative biological, vessel, and gear-selectivity information for various New England and Mid-Atlantic fisheries. The At-Sea Monitor program focuses specifically on the groundfish industry, a grouping of fish that includes many commonly consumed fish such as cod, haddock and various flounder species. Monitors work on deck on vessels ranging from 20' to 100' on trips roughly ranging from 1 to 14 days collecting data on fish catch and discard and incidental takes such as marine mammals, seabirds, and marine turtles. After attending a 3-week paid training in-person training in Falmouth, MA monitors are deployed from ports throughout New England and Mid-Atlantic states. Gear types assessed include, trawl, gillnet, longline and handline. Accommodations and meal reimbursement during in person session of training are provided. Training includes instructions on sampling protocols, gear, fisheries, fish identification, marine mammal/sea turtle identification, and safety. This is a challenging job and candidates must be mentally prepared to be away from home for multiple days, and must be physically able to handle heavy lifting, working odd hours, and long days in rough seas. Observing provides an excellent career in marine biology, as observers and monitors are widely recognized as being excellent field biologists. A broad range of advancement opportunities are available to those who demonstrate appropriate capabilities. Those opportunities include, but are not limited to, project management, field supervisors, and fieldwork in other programs. Compensation: Monitors' starting pay is $19.00/hour.
