As a trusted technical adviser on maritime safety matters, you will also: - Provide practical health and safety advice within HSE and to industry - Engage with industry groups and standards bodies to help raise offshore safety standards About You To be considered as a Specialist Inspector, you will need: - Experience in one or more areas involving design, construction, integrity management, and operations of floating offshore installations (FPSOs/FSUs, Jackup rigs and Semi-submersibles), support vessels, and their marine plant and equipment - An understanding of relevant codes &amp; standards from International Standards Organisation (ISO), International Maritime Organisation (IMO), American Petroleum Institute (API) and Classification Societies - Expert level knowledge on the operation of marine systems, including power generation and power management onboard trading oiltankers, shuttle tankers, dynamically positioned mobile offshore units or diving support vessels - Knowledge and understanding of design principles and safety levels involved in the design of various marine systems for floating offshore installations - Knowledge and understanding of major accident hazards and control measures for floating offshore installations and mobile offshore units - Familiarity with basic principles of risk management and risk assessment tools - Operational knowledge and experience to identify risk gaps and underlying issues - Chartered Engineer status with corporate membership of an appropriate professional institution (IMarEST or RINA), or have the qualifications to be able to achieve chartered status - A marine engineering qualification with a STCW Certificate of Competency as a Chief Engineer unlimited or a degree in Marine Engineering or equivalent qualifications with demonstrable experience as a marine engineer The closing date for this role is 5th January 2026. The Liverpool-based team will coordinate work-package 2 - focused on the generation of biodiversity data and complementary interdisciplinary information to enable assessment of fisheries impacts. You will be responsible for generating eDNA metabarcoding data from fisheries across the Mediterranean, entailing the development of an ambitious sampling design, running laboratory experiments using molecular techniques, carrying out bioinformatics and statistical analyses, and leading academic publications. What your new role will entail; <ul><li>Be a Subject Matter Expert: you will provide technical marine ecological and marine consenting advice, internally and externally. We are looking for a Principal or Associate consultant who is experienced in the management, coordination and delivery of flood risk assessment projects to be able to direct and lead teams on technically complex projects for a range of clients. Working as part of our national team, the successful candidate will also be able to work seamlessly across other technical areas within the Sustainable Water Management team. This includes but is not limited to flood risk modelling, LLFA technical services and flood management solutions; as well as other water environment technical areas including Water EIA, WFD assessment, permitting applications, geomorphology and BNG. The appointment would be at Principal or Associate grade, depending on experience. We can be flexible on location within the UK and offer flexible and hybrid working arrangements. We have a strong portfolio of major infrastructure projects such as Mersey Tidal Power, HyNet North West and East West Rail; and with clients such as National Grid, Network Rail and National Highways. We also continue to support our strong portfolio of Local Authority and Lead Local Flood Authority clients, including delivery of transport infrastructure schemes, flood investigations, flood risk management strategies and planning review support. The Sustainable Water Management business operates as a national team and work is shared around the team in a fair and transparent way, ensuring project allocation takes into account personal interests and development aspirations and much as practicable. As a senior member of the team, you would be actively involved in the continued growth, development and resourcing of the team. What we will be looking for you to demonstrate... Skills / Experience <ul> <li>Experience of Flood Risk Assessment preparation, and experience in one or more of the typical supporting skills including flood risk modelling, flood risk strategy development, drainage design or Water EIA, at least some of which should have been in consultancy. </li> <li>Demonstrable experience of leading or major contributor to technical inputs and teams for successful project delivery for planning and permitting for major infrastructure projects.
