Under the direction of the Environmental Director and in alignment with Tribal Council priorities, this role involves coordinating and conducting scientific field activities, ensuring compliance with grant objectives, and pursuing funding opportunities to support ongoing fisheries initiatives. Current projects include environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling, river use monitoring, stream restoration and mapping, beach cleanups, and aerial surveys of goat and moose populations. While office duties involve typical desk work, computer tasks, and participation in meetings, a significant portion of the role entails fieldwork. This fieldwork exposes the employee to a range of weather conditions, from heat to cold, along with rain and wind elements. Fieldwork also entails physical labor, necessitating the lifting, carrying, and maneuvering of equipment and materials, some of which may weigh up to 50 pounds. The terrain may be uneven, requiring physical agility to navigate effectively. Additionally, the employee must be prepared to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods during fieldwork and will give Immediate notification of on-the-job injuries. Manual dexterity and keen hand-eye coordination are indispensable for tasks like operating equipment and conducting compost monitoring and sampling. Moreover, the role demands sufficient vision, hearing, and verbal communication skills to execute duties safely and effectively. The employee must be able to read, write, speak and hear. Fisheries Biologist

R/V Sikuliaq, pronounced [see-KOO-lee-auk], is a 261-foot oceanographic research ship capable of bringing scientists to the ice-choked waters of Alaska and the polar regions. Sikuliaq, one of the most advanced university research vessels in the world, is able to break ice up to 2.5 feet thick. Constructed in Marinette, Wisconsin, Sikuliaq is homeported in Seward, Alaska, at UAF's Seward Marine Center. We are currently accepting applications for temporary relief QMEDs. The temporary QMEDs will fill in while the regular crew are on shore, and applications will be reviewed on an as-needed basis. Strong mechanical problem solving skills and the ability to be at sea for extended periods of time are required. Operational understanding of fuel oil bunkering procedures and emergency response, safe usage of basic machine and hand tools, basic math and computer skills. Knowledge of basic good seamanship practices (knots, line-handling, general shipboard maintenance and care, preparation/preservation of steel surfaces, operation of deck equipment, winches, etc). Ability to work with a diverse group of people including scientists, ship's crew and technicians. Applicants should possess strong skills as a marine electrician, especially in the areas of troubleshooting, new installations, and upkeep of existing equipment. The successful applicant should have experience working with shipboard electrical systems, and an understanding of and experience with VOM, megger, and amp meters. The electrician must also have the ability to read blueprints of electrical/electronic equipment on board with the ability to make changes as required. After attending a 3-week paid training in-person training in Falmouth, MA monitors are deployed from ports throughout New England and Mid-Atlantic states. HDR is looking for a Coastal Engineer to join our team of nationally ranked professionals in Corpus Christi or Houston, TX. We are seeking individuals passionate about restoring and protecting our coastlines through innovative and resilient solutions. As a member of our team, you will: <ul><li>Lead the analysis and design of coastal restoration projects, including marsh restoration, beach nourishment, shoreline protection, and more.</li><li>Develop construction plans and specifications to successfully implement projects on the Texas coast.</li><li>Technical applicants will have to opportunity to contribute to our growing team of numerical modeling experts developing wave, tidal circulation, storm surge, passing vessel, and tsunami models.</li><li>Assist and lead development of proposals, cost estimates, and project management activities. </li><li>Interact with clients and foster HDR's reputation within the community and the industry.</li></ul>This role offers the opportunity to work on exciting projects that make a lasting impact on our coastlines, while collaborating with a team of talented professionals. Preferred Qualifications <ul><li>MS degree</li><li>A minimum of 5 years of experience in coastal engineering projects</li><li>Experience with numerical modeling of waves, tidal circulation, and storm surge. Alternatively, strong experience in development of construction plans, specifications, and project management.
