The successful candidate will lead technical design task, perform engineering design, and expand their technical capabilities in the field. Experience in the design of upstream and downstream fish collection facilities, fish passage and screening, acclimation facilities, and aquaculture water treatment is desirable. We also welcome candidates with experience in engineering design of drinking water, wastewater, or raw water systems, pump stations, water or wastewater treatment, or water resource projects with a strong desire to become a proficient practitioner in fish hatcheries and aquaculture. Experience in the development of plans and specifications for bidding and construction is especially valued. The successful candidate will join strong fisheries team and have the opportunity to mentor directly with nationally recognized senior fisheries engineers and biologists. The preferred location for this position is in Washington (Seattle, Bellevue, Everett, Gig Harbor, Olympia, Pasco, Spokane) although other locations and hybrid arrangements may be possible depending on experience. Primary Responsibilities In the role of Civil Engineer - Fisheries, we'll count on you to: <ul><li>Develop plans and specifications for bidding and construction documents of new and renovations to existing fish hatcheries and aquaculture facilities.</li><li>Develop designs to meet industry standards and federal and local codes, laws, and regulations, including development of engineering calculations, technical memoranda, reports, alternative development and evaluation, feasibility analysis, and long-term planning documents.</li><li>Communicate with and solicit input from owners, operations and maintenance staff, regulatory agencies, construction contractors, subconsultants, and other stakeholders through meetings, presentations, and direct communication. This may include working earlier or later than typical office hours and may (very rarely) include weekends.</li><li>Ability to work in an office setting for extended periods of time in addition to working in the field.</li><li>Ability to conduct themselves professionally in the workspace, have good organizational skills, good record-keeping skills.</li></ul>Work Environment/Physical Demands: Work environment is diverse, encompassing both indoor and outdoor settings. While office duties involve typical desk work, computer tasks, and participation in meetings, a significant portion of the role entails fieldwork. This fieldwork exposes the employee to a range of weather conditions, from heat to cold, along with rain and wind elements. Fieldwork also entails physical labor, necessitating the lifting, carrying, and maneuvering of equipment and materials, some of which may weigh up to 50 pounds. The terrain may be uneven, requiring physical agility to navigate effectively. Additionally, the employee must be prepared to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods during fieldwork and will give Immediate notification of on-the-job injuries. Manual dexterity and keen hand-eye coordination are indispensable for tasks like operating equipment and conducting compost monitoring and sampling.
