Role description: Our Catchment Modelling and Strategy team is looking for a Senior Flood Risk Consultant to join the team. We'll make sure you get the experience and personalised learning support you need to take your career as far as you want it to go. Arcadis are involved in some of the UK's most complex and diverse projects that are technically demanding and offer considerable potential for learning and development. We lead on the delivery of a variety of schemes and are working closely with the regulators e.g. the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, as well as the UK's key infrastructure providers (Network Rail, Highways England), Local Government and private developers/investors. Collaborating, learning, thinking proactively and creatively forms the ethos of the team and a fundamental part of your role. Role accountabilities: <ul> <li>Coordinating and supervising modelling studies and flood risk projects</li> <li>Produce and lead flood risk assessments</li> <li>Supporting, developing and line managing junior team members</li> <li>Resolving technical modelling issues on projects and advancing our technical expertise</li> <li>Carrying out technical reviews of hydraulic models</li> <li>Supporting in the preparation of project proposals / bids / fee estimates</li> <li>Managing components of projects, taking responsibility for personal time and resource management, coordinating team members and quality assurance</li> <li>Providing input to project teams, leading by example to achieve sector goals and championing quality and innovation</li> <li>Assisting and participating in developing yourself and other team members to their full potential</li></ul>Qualifications &amp; Experience: <ul> <li>Degree in an appropriate analytical subject (Civil Engineering, Geology, Geography, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Engineering Hydrology)</li> <li>As an experienced professional you will be working at the level of a chartered individual and it is assumed you will have, or be close to achieving, chartership with an appropriate body (CIWEM, ICE)</li> <li>Fluvial flood modelling experience using industry-standard software such as TUFLOW / ESTRY / Flood Modeller</li> <li>Ability to supervise and carry out Flood Risk Assessments and an in-depth knowledge of UK flood risk policy (NPPF and TAN15)</li> <li>Desired: Experience in water resource assessments, undertaking Environmental Impact Assessments and preparing Environmental Statements</li> <li>Desired: Experience in working on hydrological studies using UK hydrological methodologies (i.e. Flood Estimation Handbook)</li> <li>Desired: Experience of Integrated Catchment Modelling, Surface Water Management Plans and SuDS</li></ul>Why Arcadis? Due to strong and sustained growth in our Sustainable Water Management business, we are seeking new colleagues who have experience in Flood Risk Assessments to join our team of 350 water consultancy and engineering professionals. Applicants are invited to further strengthen our technical capability in water environment assessment to lead the delivery of a range of project work, including planning and DCO applications for major infrastructure development. Our Bristol team comprises 15 water environment and flood risk professionals who work collaboratively on projects with our regional team of 30 across the South and South West, and with our national team of approximately 150 across the UK. We have a strong portfolio of major infrastructure projects such the Bristol Heat Network and Cullompton Town Centre Relief Road; and with clients such as National Grid, Network Rail and National Highways. We also continue to support our strong portfolio of Local Authority and Lead Local Flood Authority clients, including delivery of transport infrastructure schemes, flood investigations, flood risk management strategies and planning review support. The Sustainable Water Management business operates as a national team and work is shared around the team in a fair and transparent way, ensuring project allocation takes into account personal interests and development aspirations and much as practicable. A little more about your role... We are looking for a Consultant who has experience in the delivery of flood risk assessment projects to work collaboratively on technically complex projects for a range of clients. Working as part of our national team, the successful candidate will also be able to work seamlessly across other technical areas within the Sustainable Water Management team. This includes but is not limited to flood risk modelling, LLFA technical services and flood management solutions; as well as other water environment technical areas including Water EIA, WFD assessment, permitting applications, geomorphology and BNG. You will contribute to a diverse range of projects but the main focus of your work is likely to be Flood Risk Assessment for major infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas, with wider involvement in flood modelling, flood management and Water EIA as appropriate to individual experience. Sharing your technical expertise and mentoring more junior members in the team will also be part of your role. Responsibilities will include: <ul> <li>Undertaking / performing project tasks assigned by senior team members such as: <ul> <li>Carrying out flood risk assessments and preparing deliverables.</li> <li>Supporting complementary projects and developing skills in areas such as sustainable drainage design, planning application reviews, preparing Local Flood Risk Management Strategies, permitting applications, and environmental assessments</li> <li>Carrying out site surveys to collect baseline information and support Section 19 investigations.</li> <li>Taking leadership of certain project management activities including financial and programme management.</li> </ul></li> <li>Communicating and liaising effectively and efficiently with the project team (both the Sustainable Water Management team and the wider business)</li> <li>Working collaboratively within the team and proactively supporting junior staff in developing their technical knowledge and understanding of tasks assigned.</li></ul>What we will be looking for you to demonstrate... Skills / Experience <ul> <li>Experience of Flood Risk Assessment preparation, and experience in one or more of the typical supporting skills including flood risk modelling, flood risk strategy development, drainage design or Water EIA, at least some of which should have been in consultancy.</li> <li>Experience of providing technical inputs for planning and permitting for major infrastructure projects.
