Marine Electrician Position Summary They will be installing, inspecting, repairing and replacing electrical components and wiring. They will also be responsible for the repair and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment on board the vessel. POSITION TITLE: Fisheries Biologist Manager DEPARTMENT: Environmental WAGE: $35.00 per hour, DOE, Full-Time, All Benefits FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt ESC CODE: FUNDING SOURCE: Grant Funded OPENING: August 21, 2025 CLOSING: September 1, 2025 Position Summary: The Fisheries Biologist Manager supports the Tribe's environmental stewardship efforts by leading fisheries-related fieldwork and managing multiple grant-funded projects. Under the direction of the Environmental Director and in alignment with Tribal Council priorities, this role involves coordinating and conducting scientific field activities, ensuring compliance with grant objectives, and pursuing funding opportunities to support ongoing fisheries initiatives. Current projects include environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling, river use monitoring, stream restoration and mapping, beach cleanups, and aerial surveys of goat and moose populations. While office duties involve typical desk work, computer tasks, and participation in meetings, a significant portion of the role entails fieldwork. This fieldwork exposes the employee to a range of weather conditions, from heat to cold, along with rain and wind elements. Fieldwork also entails physical labor, necessitating the lifting, carrying, and maneuvering of equipment and materials, some of which may weigh up to 50 pounds. The terrain may be uneven, requiring physical agility to navigate effectively. Additionally, the employee must be prepared to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods during fieldwork and will give Immediate notification of on-the-job injuries. Manual dexterity and keen hand-eye coordination are indispensable for tasks like operating equipment and conducting compost monitoring and sampling. Click to Learn More about Becoming a Fisheries Observer Duties/Responsibilities: Biologists take trips typically lasting from two to ten days on vessels ranging from 40 feet to 125 feet long. Biologists log detailed information on the gear and fishing activities of the vessel. They set up a station on deck to collect catch and bycatch data as well as document interactions with marine mammals and seabirds. After attending a three-week (in person) paid training in Seattle, WA from (6/11 - 7/2) , biologists are deployed from ports throughout Alaska. Gear types include benthic and pelagic trawl, hook and line, and pot. Training includes instructions on sampling protocols, gear types, fisheries, fish identification, marine mammal/seabird/crab identification, and safety. Observing is an excellent career in marine biology, as Biologists are widely recognized as strong, capable field biologists. However, this is a challenging job. Candidates must be mentally prepared to be away from home for three months, and physically able to handle heavy lifting, working odd hours, and long days in rough seas. For those who thrive as an biologist, a broad range of advancement opportunities with AIS are available. The opportunities include, but are not limited to, project management, field supervision, and cross-training for field work in other programs.
