About You: This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences' RESPECT Service System. About the Opportunity: The Marine Technician is responsible for carrying out daily duties such as repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting marine diesel engines, , generators, transmissions, drive trains, HVAC, plumbing, pumps, holding tanks, and electrical equipment. Part-Time Marine Technician - City Cruises - NYC

R/V Sikuliaq, pronounced [see-KOO-lee-auk], is a 261-foot oceanographic research ship capable of bringing scientists to the ice-choked waters of Alaska and the polar regions. Sikuliaq, one of the most advanced university research vessels in the world, is able to break ice up to 2.5 feet thick. Constructed in Marinette, Wisconsin, Sikuliaq is homeported in Seward, Alaska, at UAF's Seward Marine Center. We are currently accepting applications for licensed temporary marine engineering positions including 2nd Assistant Engineer, and 3rd Assistant Engineer. Constructed in Marinette, Wisconsin, Sikuliaq is homeported in Seward, Alaska, at UAF's Seward Marine Center. We are currently accepting applications for temporary marine engineering positions including a Marine Electrician. The temporary Marine Electrician will fill in while the regular Marine Electrician is on shore. Applications will be reviewed on an as-needed basis. Applicants should possess strong skills as a marine electrician, especially in the areas of troubleshooting, new installations, and upkeep of existing equipment. The successful applicant should have experience working with shipboard electrical systems, and an understanding of and experience with VOM, megger, and amp meters. The successful applicant will also possess an understanding of shipboard operations, the ability to operate machines and hand tools safely, and math and computer skills. The electrician must also have the ability to read blueprints of electrical/electronic equipment on board with the ability to make changes as required. The electrician must have experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and electronic controls, knowledge of variable frequency drives, and knowledge of electrical safe practices. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse personnel. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must possess the following: a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner's Credential endorsed as QMED and Able Seafarer- Engine (STCW). Applicants must have all applicable training as required by the Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers. Relief Marine Electrician (Temporary) - R/V Sikuliaq

R/V Sikuliaq, pronounced [see-KOO-lee-auk], is a 261-foot oceanographic research ship capable of bringing scientists to the ice-choked waters of Alaska and the polar regions. Sikuliaq, one of the most advanced university research vessels in the world, is able to break ice up to 2.5 feet thick. Constructed in Marinette, Wisconsin, Sikuliaq is homeported in Seward, Alaska, at UAF's Seward Marine Center. We are currently accepting applications for temporary relief QMEDs. The temporary QMEDs will fill in while the regular crew are on shore, and applications will be reviewed on an as-needed basis. Strong mechanical problem solving skills and the ability to be at sea for extended periods of time are required. Operational understanding of fuel oil bunkering procedures and emergency response, safe usage of basic machine and hand tools, basic math and computer skills. Knowledge of basic good seamanship practices (knots, line-handling, general shipboard maintenance and care, preparation/preservation of steel surfaces, operation of deck equipment, winches, etc). Ability to work with a diverse group of people including scientists, ship's crew and technicians. Candidates should have experience working in the engine room of a ship, experience with a wide range of vessel systems and their proper operation, and experience with and practice of good safety procedures. Strong mechanical and problem solving skills are a must!
