CHIEF NAVAL ARCHITECT
The Chief Naval Architect - Lead Hydro will oversee hydrodynamic analysis and mooring system design for Gazelle's floating offshore platform. This profile will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers in conducting technical assessments and ensuring compliance with industry standards and project deliveries. Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills are essential for success in this role.

Professional experience
  • 7-10 years of experience in hydrodynamic analysis and structure design, preferably with a focus on wind energy projects.
  • Experience in managing complex engineering projects and leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful project deliveries in the marine environment.
  • Experience in fabrication and construction yards is beneficial.
Specific professional specialization relevant
  • Good technical knowledge of mooring software (OrcaFlex, Deeplines Wind or similar), analysis software (FEMAP or SESAM) and Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and MATLAB.
  • Must have good working awareness of codes and standards in FOW or similar industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of mooring system design and analysis for offshore structures, including dynamic response and station-keeping strategies.
Others requirements
  • Multidisciplinary skills and good knowledge of cross functional disciplines especially Mooring and Structure is beneficial.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate with internal teams, subcontractors, and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex engineering data and make sound technical decisions.
  • Should demonstrate enthusiasm, support, and engagement with their team.
  • Innovative thinking, always keeping up to date with technology.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to plan, organize, and execute engineering activities within project schedules and budgets.
  • Fluency in English is required; Portuguese is beneficial but not mandatory.
Activities/Functions
  • Lead hydrodynamic analysis and modelling efforts for GWP's platform, including the development of numerical models and simulation studies to assess platform performance.
  • Oversee the design and optimization of mooring systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to the engineering team, including mentoring junior staff and coordinating with other disciplines.
  • Interface with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to ensure the timely completion of engineering activities related to hydrodynamics and moorings.
  • Collaborate with project managers, chief innovation officers, and other stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Conduct technical reviews and assessments of engineering deliverables, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to quality standards.
  • Monitor project progress and performance, identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies as necessary to ensure project success.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for internal and external audiences, including regulatory submissions and client meetings.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in offshore wind energy, contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and methodologies.
  • Implement project management methodologies as needed to maintain control over progress and adherence to schedules.
General conditions

  • Based in our Viana do Castelo office.
  • Minimum 3 days per week in the office, ideally 4-5 days.
  • Contract & Working Hours:
  • Permanent contract with an initial trial period.
  • 40-hour work week.
  • 22 days of vacation annually.
  • Compensation & Benefits:
  • Salary range: €4,286€ - €7,143 gross per month (based on experience), 14 salaries per year.
  • Food allowance: €9.60 per working day (approx. €200 net per month, paid 11 times per year).
