This position requires knowledge of all aspects of hydrographic surveying including GNSS, tides, mapping, sound velocity, multibeam and single beam echosounder operation, sidescan collection and interpretation, and vessel mobilizations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Calibrate, operate, maintain and troubleshoot FRPD surveying and positioning equipment including multi-beam echo sounders, Motion Reference Units, GNSS receivers and Gyros
  • Coordinate with the project team, review project plans at all stages to identify and resolve problems.
  • Accept responsibility for assigned tasks and follow all QA/QC standards, review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures, and suggest improvements as necessary
  • Collect hydrographic and terrestrial data in a variety of environments including offshore, foreshore, estuarine, lakes and ponds
  • Analyze and process data using project-specified software packages
  • Follow all QA/QC controls during acquisition and subsequent processing of hydrographic and terrestrial data
  • Update supervisor with project progress, maintain survey logs, update records, and write field operation report
  • Support with mobilizing and demobilizing survey vessels in the field
  • Assist with designing and installing project control networks in the field
  • Assist with vessel operations and vessel crew duties as needed
  • Complete all company required HSE training; actively participate in regular safety meetings
  • Identify errors, anomalies, and data quality issues during data collection
QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-Secondary education in Hydrography, Geomatics, Cartography, Geography, Natural Sciences, Engineering or other relevant discipline
  • 2+ years of hydrographic survey experience utilizing current technologies is preferred
  • Some multi-beam experience is preferred
  • Candidate must be legally able to drive and hold a valid Driver's license
  • Working knowledge of applicable software packages such as AutoCAD, C3D MS Work office suite, and Trimble Geomatics Office
  • Basic knowledge of hydrographic acquisition and post-processing software including QINSy, HYPACK, HydroPRO, Clamvision, and Caris is preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety
  • Ability to obtain Small Vessel Operators Proficiency(SVOP) training
  • Work duties are performance in both office and field environments; field work is performed outdoors and may take place in inclement weather and extreme temperatures
  • Hydrographic survey work requires working on a marine vessel for extended periods of time
  • Both field and office work requires occasional heavy lifting of survey equipment
  • Responsibilities may require an unconventional work schedule, long days and evening / weekend hours in order to meet project deadlines
  • Ability to pass project specific drug testing
  • Minimal travel but site visits required as well as requirement to be on call nights and weekends
