We are seeking a ICT Vessel Engineer to manage and maintain the IT systems onboard our fleet of vessels, ensuring continuous, efficient operations and secure connectivity. The ideal candidate will oversee network setups, troubleshoot technical issues, maintain communication systems, and ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards.

Reporting directly to the IT Manager key accountabilities include:

IT Infrastructure Management:
  • Set up and manage onboard IT systems, including servers, networks, communication systems, and Cisco VoIP telephony systems.
  • Monitor the performance of vessel IT infrastructure and troubleshoot any technical issues (remote and on-site support as required).
  • Manage satellite communication systems (VSAT, FBB, Iridium) for internet and email connectivity.
  • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, software, and hardware onboard vessels, including desktop/laptop setups (Microsoft environment), mobile devices (Android, Apple), and other supporting office equipment.
User Support & Troubleshooting:
  • Provide technical support to shipboard crew for IT-related issues, ensuring the smooth operation of IT systems on a daily basis.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve hardware and software malfunctions.
  • Provide remote assistance when vessels are at sea, coordinating with shore-based IT teams.
  • Conduct testing to ensure that the company's systems work as expected and provide training to end-users.
Cybersecurity:
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity protocols and maintain the security of onboard IT systems.
  • Implement and update antivirus software, firewalls, and other security measures.
  • Regularly conduct vulnerability assessments and mitigate risks related to cybersecurity threats.
Documentation & Reporting:
  • Prepare regular reports on IT system performance, incidents, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Ensure proper documentation of user manuals and IT procedures for onboard personnel.
Collaboration with Shore-Based Teams & Vendors:
  • Liaise with end-users, software/hardware vendors, and shore-based IT teams to align onboard IT systems with corporate standards.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors for hardware procurement, repairs, and installations.
  • Follow departmental procedures on purchasing and invoice processing
Compliance & Regulatory Requirements:
  • Ensure that all IT systems onboard comply with maritime regulations, including data privacy and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Stay updated with relevant maritime IT standards and implement necessary adjustments to onboard systems
Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in IT administration, preferably in the maritime/shipping industry.
  • Familiarity with marine communication systems (VSAT, FBB, Iridium) is highly desirable.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Server environments, Active Directory, Microsoft operating systems, Office Suite tools, and the Office 365 cloud platform.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, both in Greek and English.
Skills:
  • Good knowledge of vessel IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, and satellite communication systems.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity practices, especially in a maritime context.
  • Proficiency in network administration, including routers, firewalls, VPNs, and Cisco VoIP Telephony.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in high-pressure environments.
  • Exceptional customer service orientation and collaboration skills.
  • Eagerness and ability to learn quickly, with adaptability to new technologies.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across functions and work closely with colleagues from various teams to ensure efficient vessel operations.
