About our client
Our client is a sea carrier and operator in marine transportation of cargoes. We are looking for an experienced Marine Engineer (Superintendent) for their growing team in Dubai.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Management
• Supervise the daily operations and maintenance of the ship's machinery and engineering systems.
• Oversee the performance and safety of engines, electrical systems, fuel systems, and auxiliary machinery.
• Ensure the vessel meets all regulatory and class requirements, including safety, environmental, and operational standards.
• Coordinate and conduct periodic inspections, audits, and surveys on-board to ensure compliance.
• Prepare reports on the condition of the ship's machinery and maintenance activities.
Maintenance & Repairs
• Develop and implement a maintenance schedule to ensure all equipment and machinery are operating at peak efficiency.
• Oversee repairs and modifications to machinery and systems as required, either during port calls or at sea.
• Coordinate dry-docking and other major maintenance projects, ensuring minimal downtime and cost-eEective solutions.
Crew Training & Support
• Provide technical guidance and support to shipboard engineering personnel.
• Ensure crew is trained and knowledgeable in the proper use of equipment, maintenance procedures, and emergency protocols.
• Promote and oversee safe working practices and a high standard of engineering performance among the crew.
Budget & Cost Control
• Monitor the engineering budget for spare parts, repairs, and maintenance activities.
• Analyze costs related to machinery repairs and maintenance to ensure cost efficiency.
• Identify areas for cost reduction while maintaining operational standards.
Liaison & Reporting
• Serve as the primary contact between the ship's engineering department and shore-based technical teams.
• Maintain clear and regular communication with vessel operators, management, and other stakeholders.
• Prepare technical reports for senior management regarding vessel condition, equipment failures, and planned maintenance.
Regulatory Compliance
• Stay updated on international maritime regulations, industry standards, and environmental guidelines.
• Ensure the vessel is always compliant with maritime laws, environmental regulations, and safety standards (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, etc.).
• Lead inspections, audits, and surveys conducted by class societies, flag states, and authorities.
Requirements
Candidate Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in marine engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
• Chief Engineer or equivalent certification (STCW and relevant marine certifications).
• At least 10 years of experience in a marine engineering role, preferably with Ship management or Ship owning companies.
• Experience with various types of vessels (tankers, bulk carriers, container ships, etc.) is preferred.
• Strong technical background in machinery and equipment maintenance.
• In-depth knowledge of shipboard engineering systems, machinery, and propulsion.
• Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
• Proficiency in shipboard maintenance management systems.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to manage teams eEectively.
• Familiarity with regulatory standards and maritime industry best practices.
Working Conditions
• Ability to work onboard ships for extended periods.
• Willingness to travel to various ports and shipyards for inspections and repairs.
• Potential for irregular hours depending on operational needs.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing ladders, working in
confined spaces, and lifting heavy objects.
• Willingness to work in various weather conditions, on deck and in engine rooms.
