Job Summary:
Mechanics are responsible for performing tests, manufacture, troubleshoot, perform preventive maintenance and repair of machinery and shipboard mechanical systems on all varieties of vessels. This position requires proficiency in operation, maintenance and repair of main propulsion machinery, auxiliary machinery and supporting systems, including electrical, plumbing, electronics, and HVAC in a commercial marine environment.

This position requires proficiency in operation, maintenance and repair of main propulsion machinery, auxiliary machinery and supporting systems, including electrical, plumbing, electronics, and HVAC in a commercial marine environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs skilled mechanical, electrical, and plumbing, maintenance, diagnosis, repair and refitting for vessels of various sizes.
- Performs general maintenance, including cleaning in machinery spaces.
- Maintains all work/engineering spaces, company tools, and equipment in a clean and organized manner.
- Responsible for assessing and ensuring vessel readiness: reporting of problems, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs.
- Reports all safety hazards and corrects unsafe conditions.
- Additional job duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of marine mechanical experience.
- Machinist experience a preferred.
- Welding/Fabricating experience a plus.
- Exhibit working knowledge of maritime mechanical systems.
- Possess an understanding of shipboard mechanical machinery equipment and systems, including main propulsion machinery, auxiliary machinery, and hydraulics.
- Possess full knowledge of mechanical systems components such as valves, bearings, gears, remote operators, couplings, system alignment, etc.
- Ability to troubleshoot, disassemble, and inspect mechanical equipment.
- Ability to disassemble, clean, assess and inspect, reassemble, and operationally test mechanical systems.
- Working knowledge of trade mathematics and formulas for calculation of torque conversion, pressure & temperature specification
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions, manuals and schematics.
- Ability to read and interpret documents and instructions
- Ability to take directions and follow instructions
- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly
- Ability to work a variety of assignments and locations on a daily or hourly basis
- Strong ability to be reliable, dependable, and work as a team
- Ability to communicate effectively and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule

- Frequent standing, balancing, walking, climbing ladders or equipment, reaching above shoulder or out in front, manual dexterity, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, seeing, hearing and occasionally lowering self into confined spaces, crawling through small openings and working in reclined positions, as needed.
- Physical ability to lift, push, pull and carry 50+ lbs., bend, stoop and climb scaffold and work on elevated work surfaces, beams, ladders, and confined spaces.
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, talk, or hear.
- The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Works in all areas of the shipyard and on-board ships.
- Hearing warning signals and reading and comprehending safety instructions.
- Must be able to maintain general safety awareness and avoid hazards commonly present in employee's work area.
