Glosten is seeking an experienced Marine Mechanical Engineer to join our office in Malta. Glosten is a naval architecture and marine engineering firm that has served the marine industry for over 60 years. We work in teams to accomplish exciting projects in a stimulating, fast-paced, and collegial environment. 

We are a company, based in Seattle, Washington, USA, drawn to unique and challenging marine projects. Our Senior-level Marine Engineers lead projects to meet the full range of our clients' needs-from new and modernized propulsion drivetrains and supporting auxiliary systems to new mission-specific systems and safety designs-for all manner of vessels. Glosten is at the forefront of new initiatives for emissions reductions and efficiency improvements driving the next generation of marine vessels.

Education and Certification:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in one of the following: marine engineering, naval architecture,mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • A Professional Engineering (PE), Charter Engineer (CEng), Engineers Europe (EUR ING), Maltese Engineering Profession Warrant (ING), or equivalent professional engineering warrant in a relevant discipline is expected. Applicants that meet the experience requirements but do not have a professional credential may be considered.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in a maritime design environment. Consulting engineering experience is preferred.
  • Expertise in the maritime regulatory environment and submittal processes, material standards, shipboard systems operation and design requirements, fieldwork (shipchecking and shipboard systems performance surveys), shipyard practices, and contract specifications.
  • Experience managing small to large projects including proposal strategy and budgeting, client communications, leading engineering teams, assigning tasks, managing scope and budget, and scheduling.
  • Experience managing project upsets and deviations for a profitable and respectable outcome.
  • Experience in independently evaluating, selecting, and applying standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria for standard designs and complex bespoke projects. Familiarity with EU standards, including emissions regulation technologies, is preferred.
  • Ability to direct efforts to resolve a wide range of technical issues outside traditional marine engineering disciplines, including naval architecture (structure and stability), machine design, and modeling/drafting.
  • Demonstrated interest in advancing the state of the art in marine design and new methods and developments affecting Glosten.
  • Experience in training and mentoring engineers and administrative staff for the future success of the company with the ability and willingness to help build a new team of engineers and office staff.
  • Initiative to become a leader in the company through profitability, project teams, business development, internal technical initiatives, and the maintenance and improvement of Glosten'scompany culture.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Rhino3D, or equivalent CAD program.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software packages.
  • Proficiency with communication tools to coordinate with engineers in multiple office locations. Ability to effectively collaborate in a group environment, both in person and remotely.
  • Shipboard and/or shipyard construction experience is not required but considered a plus.
  • Expertise or background in shipboard power system design is not required but considered a plus.
  • Must be authorized to work in the European Union.
  • A valid driver's license is required for certain assignments.
  • Must hold a current passport or be able to obtain one prior to employment.
