JOB SUMMARY
A client of ours is recruiting two Project Managers to deliver large-scale shipbuilding projects in Durban on fixed-term contracts of 12 months and 18 months. The role suits senior project leaders with a marine or mechanical engineering background and a track record of delivering multidisciplinary maritime construction programmes on time, within budget and to classification and safety standards.

Our client is a respected shipbuilding and maritime engineering organisation operating in Africa, known for complex build programmes, rigorous safety, and delivery to international benchmarks within a collaborative, continuous-improvement culture.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
In order to be shortlisted for the vacancy, the successful candidate will have the following skills and competencies, but not limited to:
Core must-haves
  • 10+ years' experience in shipbuilding, marine or mechanical engineering
  • 5+ years in a project management role
  • Diploma or Degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering or related technical field, or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in MS Projects or Primavera and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
  • Strong stakeholder management, leadership and communication
  • Solid knowledge of maritime regulations, classification standards and safety protocols
  • Proven delivery of scope, time, cost and quality outcomes
Nice-to-haves
  • PMP or Prince 2 certification
  • Contract administration exposure and documentation control
  • Continuous improvement and KPI-driven reporting experience
Any nationality will be considered. However, there is no relocation package available for this role. Shortlisted candidates must be willing and able to relocate to Durban, South Africa at their own cost.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The role responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
  • Lead and manage end-to-end project delivery across planning, execution, monitoring and closure
  • Develop and control project plans, schedules, budgets and resource allocations
  • Coordinate engineering, procurement, production and quality teams
  • Ensure compliance with maritime regulations, classification and safety protocols
  • Manage clients, subcontractors, suppliers and regulators
  • Track KPIs, chair meetings and present status updates to senior stakeholders
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies
  • Drive continuous improvement and best-practice project management
  • Oversee documentation, record control and contract administration

A market-related salary based on the level of responsibility for this role is on offer.
