Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding career in Wind Industry? Do you have the skills and experience to support the successful delivery of complex and diverse projects?

If yes, we are seeking a Naval Architect to join the maritime department and work with the team in subject areas including technical analysis of vessels operating in offshore wind, including tendering, development and operational support projects. In this role as Naval Architect, you will be a representative of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) on topics related to all vessel types operating for the Service Business.

How to contribute to our vision

The Naval Architect reports to the Head Maritime Technical Projects, which is a team within the Maritime and Major Programs Department. The candidate will also be required to support in other areas of the team during peaks in project workload. The role will require you to utilize your Naval Architecture skills and knowledge to assess project specific requirements, assess the potential solutions, and choose and deliver the best setup for the project.

The role will require working within a project team and occasionally leading project teams, therefore understanding of Project Management is required, and certification is preferred. For areas of work within Technical Projects (TP) the Naval Architect is required to work within principles of project management, including scope definition, planning, risk and opportunity management, time, cost, and quality management.

Main Tasks
  • Tender
    • Tender Contributor Technical project manager / Naval Architect for Crew Transfer Vessel tenders. The role requires the naval architect to work withing a matrix sourcing team consisting other disciples including, legal, procurement, Chartering Manager, commercial project manager. As Naval architect you will perform technical and operational analysis of the proposed vessels to benchmark their capabilities against the project specific requirements to ensure the correct vessel is deployed to each project.
Additional Tasks
  • Technical Product / Service Development
    • Concept Development: Identification of services or products with the potential to benefit to SGRE, investigate and analyze the product or service to assess if it can be made ready for business use.
    • Vessel Sustainability: Develop the technology road map and business case for decarbonization of each asset class, including Jack Up vessels, Service Operations Vessels and Crew Transfer Vessels.
    • Develop the marine requirements and implement into the technology roadmap.
  • Sales
    • Sales Support: Technical support during the sales phase, on an ad hoc basis demanding on the complexity of the sales project.
    • Aftersales: Technical support during the aftersales phase, on an ad hoc basis demanding on the complexity of the aftersales project.
  • Asset Preparation
    • Vessel Build/Conversion Management: Management of a vessel build or conversion. Conduct inspections at the shipyard, attend milestone tests, attend the yard trials, and host the charterer sea trials. Handover the vessel to operations team post sea trials.
    • Vessel Mobilization and Demobilization: Contribute and support the Vessel Project Manager as the project as technical project manager during Jack Up vessel mobilization and demobilizations.
  • Fleet Management
    • Fleet Management Support: Feasibility Studies and engineering analysis to support fleet management and operations.
  • Special projects
    • Project Planning: Technical project manager / Naval Architect for special projects which can be categorized as designing a solution to execute a non-standard major component exchange offshore. The role requires the naval architect to work withing a matrix sourcing team consisting other disciples including, operational project managers, vessel project managers, design engineers, legal, procurement, Chartering Manager, commercial project manager.
    • Execution Projects: Technical project manager / Naval Architect for special projects which can be categorized as designing a solution to execute a non-standard major component exchange offshore. Supporting the execution of project, as back office and at times offshore project contributor.
What You Need to Make a Difference

A passion for renewable energy and a sense for the importance to lead the change. We are also looking for...
  • MEng/BEng degree in Naval Architecture, Offshore Engineering or Maritime related engineering
  • Experience project management and execution projects ideally with heavy lifts offshore vessels in the wind industry is critical
  • Working experience as Architect with experience with offshore wind vessels or graduation in Naval Architecture with strong skills and relevant work experience would be essential
  • Ability to use the software listed below.
    • AutoCAD - Required.
    • Microsoft office 365 software - Required.
    • Siemens NX - preferred
    • OrcaFlex - preferred
    • Python / MATLAB potentially useful
