About the Role
StormGeo is looking for a Naval Architect, who will play a vital role in our core scientific development team, actively contributing to the advancement of vessel performance models, voyage route optimization, and seakeeping characteristics. Our approach to naval architecture at StormGeo is closely aligned with our business development efforts, ensuring that your work directly contributes to creating value for our customers.
You will be part of the Domain Components team, which is responsible for the creation and maintenance of various tools, code libraries, and services within the company. The team primarily delivers solutions to other teams within StormGeo and works closely with developers, managers, QA specialists, and business analysts across the organization. Our code is deeply rooted in naval architecture, mathematics, and physics, and is generally algorithmically complex.
This position is based in Flemingsberg (Stockholm), Sweden. Other StormGeo office locations may be considered as well.

Main Responsibilities
- Contribute to software development by reviewing, improving, and implementing state-of-the-art concepts in naval architecture, ship propulsion, and ship theory.
- Perform research and analysis on various naval architecture-related topics.
- Monitor, validate, and improve existing vessel fuel consumption and speed loss models.
- Develop new route optimization algorithms and enhance existing ones.
- Contribute to the development of seakeeping analysis as a new service.
- Participate in other business-driven projects and initiatives as required.
- Collaborate with clients and third-party suppliers.
- Attend internal and external meetings to share knowledge on naval architecture-related topics with colleagues and customers.
- Relevant professional experience as a Naval Architect.
- Background in naval architecture or marine engineering.
- Strong motivation to develop skills in both naval architecture and software development.
- Software development experience is required:
- Proficiency in Python, or similar languages for scientific computing.
- Knowledge of object-oriented programming (e.g. C#, C++, Python) is a significant advantage.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, collaborating with naval architects and software developers.
- Professional proficiency in English, enabling clear and effective communication.
