Glosten is seeking an experienced full-time Naval Architect to join our office in Malta. Glosten is a naval architecture and marine engineering firm that has served the marine industry for over 60 years. We work in teams to accomplish exciting projects in a stimulating, fast-paced, and collegial environment.

We are a company, based in Seattle, Washington, USA, drawn to unique and challenging marine projects. Glosten is looking for a Naval Architect to apply practical engineering skills to design new vessels, develop modifications to improve existing vessels, and help clients solve unique problems in the complex marine environment. From taking initial client calls and rapidly developing feasibility level designs to managing large multi-year programs, Glosten Senior Naval Architects employ robust technical skills to develop and refine hull forms, design vessel structure, produce arrangements, evaluate stability, and determine powering and seakeeping characteristics. Solving our clients' unique projects can require development of custom software to optimize a solution or automate analysis. Our work requires communication and collaboration with other disciplines and stakeholders. Glosten projects include consulting efforts that harness our deep technical knowledge to help clients achieve their goals.

Education and Certification:

  • Minimum Bachelor's Engineering degree with a background in marine structures, hydrostatics, and hydrodynamics is required. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • A Professional Engineering (PE), Charter Engineer (CEng), Engineers Europe (EUR ING), Maltese Engineering Profession Warrant (ING) or equivalent professional engineering warrant in a relevant discipline is expected. Applicants that meet the experience requirements but do not have a professional credential may be considered.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in a maritime design environment, Consulting engineering experience is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Written and verbal fluency in additionallanguages is beneficial.
  • Expertise in the maritime regulatory environment and submittal processes, fieldwork (shipcheckingand stability surveys), shipyard practices, and contract specifications.
  • Experience managing small to large projects including proposal strategy and budgeting, client communications, leading engineering teams, assigning tasks, managing scope and budget, and scheduling. Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience managing project upsets and deviations for a profitable and respectable outcome.
  • Experience in independently evaluating, selecting, and applying standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria. Specific technical knowledge of hydrostatics, stability, and structural analysis.
  • Ability to direct efforts to resolve a wide range of technical issues outside traditional naval architecture disciplines, including marine engineering (vessel systems), ocean engineering, shipyard workflows,and modeling/drafting.
  • Demonstrated interest in advancing the state of the art in marine design and new methods and developments affecting Glosten.
  • Experience in training and mentoring engineers and administrative staff for the future success of the company with the ability and willingness to help build a new team of engineers and office staff.
  • Initiative to become a leader in the company through profitability, project teams, business development, internal technical initiatives, and the maintenance and improvement of Glosten'scompany culture.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Rhino3D, or equivalent CAD program.
  • Proficiency in finite element analysis, Python, GHS, and other engineering software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software packages.
  • Proficiency with communication tools to coordinate with engineers in multiple office locations. Ability to effectively collaborate in a group environment, both in person and remotely.
  • Proficiency with project data organization.
  • Shipboard and/or shipyard construction experience is not required but considered a plus.
  • Must be authorized to work in the European Union.
  • A valid driver's license is required for certain assignments.
  • Must hold a current passport or be able to obtain one prior to employment.
