Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Naval Architect to join the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) In-Service Support - Naval Architecture team, responsible for the safety, structural integrity and hydrodynamic performance of all in-service UK submarines. The team directly supports the Continuous At Sea Deterrent (CASD) and SSN fleet at high readiness.
Key Tasks and Deliverables
• Monitor, coordinate and assess all structural hazards and risks across in-service submarine classes.
• Maintain and update hazard and risk databases for structural and naval architecture hazards on a monthly basis.
• Produce and maintain hazard action grids for delivery at key safety and environmental meetings.
• Manage and report on all Structural Safety Development activities, including creation of tasking forms.
• Monitor and support Structural and Naval Architecture Key Hazard Committees, including attendance at SCRG.
• Act as the Structures and Naval Architecture point of contact for COMEX, LIFEX and PLEX activities.
• Manage COMEX and LIFEX workstreams within Structures and Naval Architecture and provide regular progress reporting.
• Track certification status and conditions, briefing stakeholders and supporting safety governance activity.
Essential Skills and Experience
• Minimum Level 4 qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Professionally registered status or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
• Experience managing and coordinating hazards, hazard review processes and forward action plans.
• Experience managing internal teams and/or subcontract personnel.
Desirable Skills and Experience
• Knowledge of the ISM Safety Management System.
Additional Information

Hybrid working is expected, typically split approximately two days working from home and three days on site at Abbey Wood. This role is open to UK nationals only.
