Irish Lights is a statutory maritime all-island organisation, whose history began over 200 years ago, delivering an essential 24/7 safety and navigation service around the coast of Ireland, protecting the marine environment, and supporting the marine industry and coastal communities. Irish Lights is a non-commercial public body, funded through the General Lighthouse Fund with reporting relationships to the Irish Department of Transport (DoT) and the UK Department for Transport (DfT). Irish Lights’ mission is to be a leading and innovative provider of reliable, efficient and cost-effective navigation and maritime services for the safety of all and works closely with its sister organisations Trinity House and the Northern Lighthouse Board in the UK. 

Irish Lights is seeking to appoint a Planning, Policy and Development Manager (PPDM) to join their senior management team. This role reports directly to the Director of Navigation, Maritime and Consenting, and the successful candidate will:

  • Lead on stakeholder engagement at national and international level providing an authoritative input to key regulatory, planning, advisory and policy processes, committees and working groups relevant to navigation safety.
  • Manage, develop, advise and report on Irish Lights internal processes for Navigation Safety and Aids to Navigation with a view to supporting Irish Lights statutory role in planning & regulation.
  • Translate future requirements and opportunities in the maritime area into the design, development and delivery of key services.
  • Be responsible for department level project delivery and status reporting.

The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and networking skills and will be adept at articulating the role of Irish Lights to internal and external stakeholders. The PPDM will have senior leadership team experience, hold a relevant degree/equivalent level qualification and have in depth experience relating to maritime policy, regulation, engineering, safety or science. They will have a track record in designing, developing and delivering new strategies and services as a response to policy and regulatory changes.
