Principal Surveyor Salary Scale: £82,800-£100,800 per annum

Senior Surveyor Salary Scale: £74,000-£90,000 per annum

The Cayman Registry, a division of Cayman Maritime, was established in 1903 and is a Category 1 Shipping Registry within the Red Ensign Group. The Registry maintains headquarters in the Cayman Islands and a European Regional Office in Southampton, UK, with global representation in the USA, throughout Europe, Singapore and Japan.

We are now seeking to employ Principal & Senior Surveyor’s based in Southampton, United Kingdom and reporting directly to the Regional Director. As part of a dynamic team the post holders will actively participate in the day-to-day technical functions of a busy operational office including responding promptly to clients ensuring the effective Implementation of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conventions, Codes and Instruments. In addition to the above, the post holders will be working within our team of Passenger Ship and Super Yacht specialists through the design certification process and providing technical support to vessels in service, which includes onboard surveys, audits & inspections worldwide. In addition, the post holders will be required to travel extensively to conduct Passenger Ship Safety Surveys, Inspections and Audits and visit new and existing clients as part of the Authority’s business development strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Only those meeting the following criteria will be considered for this position

  • University degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture or a related subject and at least TEN (10) years post graduate experience in a technical role with an IACS Classification Society; or reputable Maritime Administration.
  • Registered with the Engineering Council as a Chartered Engineer and Member of a Recognised Professional Body; and
  • A thorough knowledge and experience in the design, construction and operation of passenger ships, and superyachts is essential, plan approval experience in this area will be advantageous.
  • Candidates with seagoing experience and experience with a Classification Society or reputable Maritime Administration may also be considered.
  • The right to live and work in the United Kingdom.

In addition to the core skills above the applicants must also be able to demonstrate:-

  • A thorough knowledge of the interrelationship of National Administrations, Port State Control MoU’s, Classification Societies, the IMO, and other Regulatory Bodies;
  • A thorough knowledge of Classification Society Rules and Regulations for the Classification of ships;
  • A thorough knowledge of International Conventions, instruments and codes appertaining to the Marine Sector;
  • Sound language, analytical, presentation and IT skills;
  • Ability to read, analyse and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations;
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; and
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
