Job Description - Senior Marine Structural Engineer

Technical skills
  • The Senior Marine Structural Engineer is responsible for executing delegated responsibilities within a project team to ensure that all design and drafting output for the Discipline is carried out on schedule, within budget, based on sound Marine & Coastal Structural engineering practices, design codes and standards, and to the complete satisfaction of the Client.
  • Executing Marine / Coastal Structural Engineering design for Marine / Coastal structural requirements as instructed by Project Engineers / Managers.
  • Experience in analysis and design of Marine Jetties, Ports and Coastal structures for Concept Design, FEED and Detailed Engineering (for Steel, Concrete and Hybrid type Structures)
  • Experience in performing In-place, Seismic and Ship Impact Analyses of Marine / Jetty structures using industry standard software
  • Experience in the analysis and design of loading platforms, berthing dolphins, mooring dolphins, access trestles, walkway bridges and associated marine/offshore structures.
  • Experience in analysis and design of wharves, quay walls, open piled jetties, retaining structures, breakwaters, dredging, land reclamation, shore protection / revetment etc.
  • Experience in the analysis and design of Single Point Mooring systems (SPMs).
  • Experience in performing adequacy check calculations of existing structures, equipment/piping support design and all related technical reports
  • Experience in structural integrity assessment of existing Marine / Jetty structures and design of modifications/strengthening
  • Experience in installation related analyses such as, load-out, lift, transportation, on-bottom stability analyses and design of installation aids for Marine / Jetty structures.
  • Experience in Constructability related aspects of Marine / Jetty structures.
  • Experience in performing mooring analysis and berthing analysis using industry standard software
  • Experience in foundation design, pile design and pile drivability analysis for the Marine / Jetty / Coastal structures.
  • Experience in preparing standard marine structural documents such as Design Basis, Specifications, Data Sheets, Material Requisitions, MTOs, Scope of Works etc.
  • Good understanding of marine & coastal structural layout/GA drawings, structural detail drawings (Steel & Concrete), support detail drawings etc.
  • Preparation of basic design and detailed design of the marine structural components in the project.
  • Preparation of conceptual designs (Structural sketches and preliminary sizing & weights).
  • Checking of drawings, calculation reports and BOQs, including standardization of deliverables to Quality Systems.
  • Specific design procedures for the Structural Design Checking practice.
  • Overseeing the proper production of Structural Calculation Reports, Main Structural Sizing and Weight Control Reports
  • Capability in reviewing Vendor offers and Vendor drawings
  • Review of drawings from other Disciplines.
  • Assisting in the issue of close-out/ feedback reports and the creation of the Discipline database.
  • Confident to give assistance during site visits, doing required measurements and collecting necessary documentation
  • Familiar with software like SACS, STAAD Pro, ANSYS, Optimoor, Moses, ABAQUS, MATHCAD.
  • Conversant with ISO, BS, Euro codes, SHELL DEP, API, AISC, ASTM and guidelines of SPM, CIRIA, PIANC, OCIMF etc.
  • Good in soil mechanics and interpreting geotechnical data for foundation / piles
  • Overall general understanding of Oil & Gas engineering projects in order to better communicate with other disciplines (Process, Piping, Pipeline, EI&C, HSE)
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor Degree in Civil / Marine / Structural or equivalent from a reputed University. Post-graduate qualification in Civil, Marine, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering is desirable.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in Structural design and analyses for Marine & Coastal structures.
  • Hands-on experience in in-place strength, push-over, fatigue, seismic, boat impact/accidental and installation related analyses using SACS software. Experience in SESAM/Genie, USFOS & ABAQUS software desirable.
  • Proven familiarity with current API, AISC, DNV and ISO codes & standards applicable to design/analysis of offshore structures.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken (Arabic will be an advantage).
