This is an opportunity for a Senior Engineer with approximately 10+ years of experience, wanting to join an engineering consultancy in a globally recognised Maritime Engineering team based in Brighton or Exeter.

About Our Maritime Business
Our global Maritime team are over six hundred strong and are at the forefront of innovative international maritime planning, design, and development. We are multi-disciplinary experts that work on international projects to create successful ports, shipyards, and maritime infrastructure worldwide. We have provided expert commercial, technical and operational advice and created master plans across the five continents for a wide range of port and shipyard projects.
We are one of the largest and most experienced teams of port planning, and shipyard and dry dock professionals and designers globally. We are world leaders in the production of port and shipyard feasibility studies, master plans, and designs. From our Maritime offices across the UK, we lead all the company's Shipyard projects collaborating with colleagues globally.
Examples of recent projects include the design of a lock for a new port in India, the design of the newest, largest, and most technically advanced shipyard in the Middle East with three dry docks covering an area of over 1,000 hectares, above and below water assessment of a set of dock gates in the North East of England, and providing continuous significant support to our various UK Naval Bases.
The Role
If you're a Civil/Structural Engineer with maritime experience or looking to transfer to the Maritime Sector and you are looking to work on globally significant projects, this role would provide you a great opportunity to work on some amazing world class projects. This role will provide great exposure to local and global projects alike, whilst working with the leading professionals within the Shipyard sector. The role is ideally wanting candidates with some knowledge of shipyards, drydocks and dock gates, but this experience is not essential.
This role is part of the growth of the Exeter and Brighton team. We offer hybrid working opportunities and are happy to discuss part time working arrangements.
Note, some of our clients require our staff to meet specific government Security Clearances before working on and having access to certain documents and projects, which will be a requirement of the job. We will pay for all necessary checks.

Job Responsibilities
- Prepare designs and analyses for maritime and associated structures, from initial concepts through to detailed designs.
- Collect and collate design data.
- Carry out inspections and surveys.
- Produce design calculations, check and review calculations produced by others.
- Produce outline models, drawings, and details for CAD (in Revit environment if you can but detailed drafting/modelling by modellers), check and review these prior to issue.
- Prepare draft Bills of Quantities, Contract Documents and Specifications.
- Prepare reports and presentations.
- Undertake engineering analyses and reporting.
- Provide engineering judgement and advice; contribute to preparation of study reports.
- Manage and direct more junior staff.
- Coach junior staff in technical matters.
- Project Manager for small and medium sized projects.
- Analytical Ability - independently undertake design and analysis work with support from senior engineers for complex tasks.
- Communication Skills - clearly articulate orally and in writing the reasons behind your decisions. Confident presenting to team members, clients, and stakeholders.
- Client Orientation - understands the importance of the client's perception of the organization. Maintains a professional client- facing approach.
- Conceptual Ability - capable of undertaking design from concept to ready for construction.
- Problem Solving - think laterally and develop solutions to problems with others and on your own.
- Relationship Building - builds a network within the immediate team, and the wider organization and can be a trusted advisor to our clients.
- Personable - approachable, relatable, and empathetic.
- Responsible - Autonomy and responsibility to work without supervision.
- Civil or Structural Engineering Degree (or equivalent).
- Chartered member of a relevant institution, e.g. CEng MICE or CEng MIStructE or working towards.
- Experience in heavy civils and/or structural projects.
- Experience in reinforced concrete design, structural steel design, and finite element analysis.
- Retaining wall and piling design experience desirable but not essential.
- Willing to travel occasionally throughout the UK and overseas.
