The Role

As a Senior Naval Architect, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Your role will support developing detailed knowledge and specialised technical expertise to support marine vessels and structures, including working to ensure compliance with international naval regulation.

Day-to-day, you'll Ensure submarine hull surveys have been conducted in accordance with Defence Standards and platform specific survey requirements.

  • Solve complex technical problems with internal and external stakeholders, Influencing and mentoring colleagues, playing a critical role in driving innovation and improving efficiency of departmental processes.
  • Perform survey auditing/reviews and approval as instructed by the Principal Naval Architect both on and off-site of surveys, sub-contractors and Babcock personnel to ensure compliance and adherence to company procedures and customer specification and to provide assurance that the standards have been met.
  • Implementation of the Company Safety, Quality and Environmental policies in the Hull Survey area of the business ensuring that assessments of risk are carried out.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in the office/onsite and 2 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Senior Naval Architect
  • Relevant standards, systems, and Classification frameworks e.g. Defence Standards, British Standards, Classification Society Rules and Regulatory body requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Nuclear Submarines such that the importance of structure, systems and operation are understood.
Qualifications for the Senior Naval Architect
  • HNC in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent
  • Naval Architect/Maritime Constructive Engineer of Chartered Engineer status or have equivalent demonstrable submarine structural experience.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
