Are you an experienced Naval Architect with a passion for submarine design and safety? We're working on behalf of a leading client in Bristol, seeking a skilled professional to join their specialised Naval Architecture team on a rewarding contract basis.
Position Overview
This role is fundamental to certifying and developing rules for Submarine Naval Architecture, focusing on key hazard areas such as manoeuvring, control, and stability. You'll be integral to managing R&D activities, chairing working groups, and supporting constitutional standards, all within a collaborative team dedicated to advancing submarine safety and capability.
Location & Working Arrangements
The position is based in Bristol, offering flexibility with hybrid working options. Regular access to the workplace will be necessary to handle SECRET information securely.

What You'll Need
- Naval Architect qualification at Master's level or equivalent experience
- Experience in submarine hydrodynamics
- Proven expertise in ship or submarine propulsion, including verification & validation (V&V) techniques
- Active SC security clearance (DV clearance highly preferred)
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the MSCA Propulsion capability area and provide strategic direction
- Lead collateral activities such as the Propulsor R&D, chair the Propulsor Working Group, and provide SME guidance to project teams
- Conduct assurance reviews into the stability key hazard, acting as a Naval Authority Reviewing Officer
- Support submarine hydromechanics R&D, ensuring vessel safety and operational capability
- Develop technical standards, guidance, and standards in accordance with defence requirements
- Lead and mentor graduate Naval Architects during placements
- Manage international project taskings, supporting travel and collaboration
- Contribute to project management, including financial and commercial duties
