A little background on our Maritime team:

Haskoning are at the forefront of innovative maritime planning, design and development, and our teams of multi-disciplinary experts have assisted our international clientele to create successful ports and maritime infrastructure worldwide. We have provided expert commercial, technical and operational advice and created master plans across the five continents for a wide range of port projects.
The role:

We are seeking a summer placement student, currently studying a civil engineering or related degree at university. The role will be based in our Newcastle office, working with the maritime engineering team, for a period of 6 weeks over July / August / September 2025.

The role will require you to use your technical training to contribute to the development of engineering design solutions for maritime civil engineering structures. You will have engineering input into ongoing projects in the Newcastle office, with typical tasks including:
  • Assisting to prepare designs and analyses for maritime and associated structures, from initial concepts through to detailed design.
  • Assisting to produce design calculations.
  • Assisting in preparing reports and presentations.
  • Gaining knowledge in commercial and technical management of projects within the office. You may also contribute to the development of the client base through assisting with proposals.

  • Analytical Ability - willingness to undertake design and analysis work with support from engineers in the team, with a proactive approach.
  • Communication Skills - can articulate orally and in writing the reasons behind your decisions, participate in team discussions and share ideas.
  • Problem Solving - can think laterally and develop solutions to problems with others and on your own.
  • Relationship Building - builds a network within the immediate team over the duration of the summer placement.
  • Organised and Structured - The way we work requires structured data storage to ensure we can extract information from our projects and archives. Need to be organised, disciplined, structured and consistent in the way you work.
  • Personable - approachable, relatable, and empathetic.
  • Currently completing a Civil or Structural Engineering Degree, with an interest in the maritime industry.
