Environmental / Coastal Scientist
RPS is looking for an Environmental / Coastal Scientist to join our dynamic Coastal Process team as part of the Water Environment team in Belfast. You'll be working on a range of coast/marine environment and engineering projects across Ireland and the UK.
In this role, you will provide essential support to the coastal team in preparing technical reports and environmental impact assessments, with a particular focus on supporting our extensive work in the fast-growing offshore renewable energy sector and the consenting of marine infrastructure projects. The role will involve drafting high-quality technical reports and Environmental Statement chapters with the potential to develop coastal modelling skills from industry experts.

What you'll be doing
- Writing technical reports and EIA chapters
- Reviewing and post-processing of numerical and/or spatial data including survey information and modelling results
- Producing high-quality maps and analysing data in GIS
- Working effectively as part of a team and with other professionals (environmental, scientists and engineers).
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area (civil engineering, marine science, oceanography or environmental science).
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Have excellent report writing skills.Have strong analytical skills to methodically record, analyse and interpret data.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently under the direction of senior staff
- Demonstrable experience in the numerical modelling of coastal processes such as tides, waves and/or sediment transport.
- Experience in the water environment or offshore energy sector
- Relevant professional qualifications (chartered or near chartered professional)
- Understanding of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and relevant regulations and guidance.
- Experience using AutoCAD.
- Experience using ArcGIS.
- Experience in coding in Matlab or Python
