Job description

The environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies.

Do you want to make a difference to people's lives? Join us to help protect even more homes and businesses from future flooding. You'll be part of our PSO community working in one of our four teams primarily across our evidence and regulatory work. The role draws upon a range of transferrable and specialist skills. Working closely with other teams and organisations, you can expect to be involved in any of the following:
• Collection, analysis and interpretation of data
• Flood risk mapping
• Providing flood risk information to customers
• Managing an Environmental Permit workload
• Working closely with customers and partners
• Taking part in incident management when flooding occurs

Experience of working within and knowledge of flood risk management is desirable but not essential and full training will be given.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and workplace adjustments will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

Our Partnerships and Strategic Overview Teams (PSO) work as part of our flood family focusing on four key areas - regulation (e.g. planning consultations and environmental permits), strategic direction (an overview of flood risk from all sources), project development and delivery (including with other Risk Management Authorities) to reduce flood risk to communities and evidence. The latter underpins all our work.

Experience/skills required

Through your experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:
• An understanding of the impact of flooding.
• Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers.
• Delivery of work by planning, tracking, gathering and maintaining data/information.
• Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team to make decisions and achieve planned outcomes.
• Good organisational skills and an ability to use MS Office.
• Knowledge and experience of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• Excellent communication skills are a must as you'll be working with a diverse range of people.
• A desire to learn and develop personally.

The key things we're looking for are transferrable skills and capabilities. As an entry level grade we welcome all backgrounds, preferably with an interest in engineering, geography or science.

Contact and additional information

Our Welwyn Garden City office has a hybrid model allowing individuals to work either at home or at our office (a minimum number of days in the office per week will be agreed with your line manager and reviewed periodically). Individuals of all backgrounds would be supported through various employee networks.
