GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:
Aon Impact Forecasting (IF) is looking for an experienced Geographic Information Systems (GIS) specialist to help and lead the development of the complex catastrophe models and enhance existing ones as part of catastrophe modeling analysis in the insurance and reinsurance industry. This is a full-time position located in India (preferably in Bangalore, with possible hybrid option) focusing on development of probabilistic flood models.

This is a full-time position located in India (preferably in Bangalore, with possible hybrid option) focusing on development of probabilistic flood models.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The individual will be a part of a team and will contribute towards developing and utilizing probabilistic flood models, to estimate probabilistic and scenario hazard, model event set, vulnerability component and implement flood models into loss calculation platform (ELEMENTS)
- Collect, create, analyze, and maintain a variety of disparate datasets, including Digital Terrain Models (DTMs), satellite imagery and other large geospatial datasets that are used for development of country-scale flood and tropical cyclone models across the globe
- Evaluate GIS datasets, methodologies, conduct quality assessments and apply corrections as required
- Automate GIS workflows and develop new and innovative techniques for GIS process and data optimization
- Collaborate with Impact Forecasting R&D teams during development and implementation of catastrophe models and help drive model adoption and usage.
- Interact with other R&D teams, analytics teams, brokers and clients throughout the Asia-Pacific, US and Europe regions as required
- Write technical content for internal use and external client distribution - presenting results/findings in the form of guidance documents, charts, maps etc.
- Stay up to date with information on new GIS technologies, GIS data sources and geospatial news.
- Post graduate degree in relevant disciplines (Geography, Hydrology, Atmospheric sciences, Information Technology, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics or equivalent) with 2-8 years of relevant experience is desired.
- Fresh GIS graduates with excellent problem solving and communications skills are welcome to apply. Designation, role, and responsibilities are assigned based on previous relevant experience.
- Experience with open-source software like QGIS, GDAL etc. and/or ESRI ArcGIS product suite.
- Strong geospatial scripting skills, preferably Python - with focus on raster and vector format data processing
- Knowledge of MS SQL databases and other scripting/ programming languages (R, MATLAB, C#, C++, VBA etc.,) is an advantage
- Good knowledge and understanding of hydrology and/or meteorology is required
- Knowledge and experience of using AI/ML techniques for solving GIS problems is an advantage
- Strong skills in MS Office suite (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels within the corporation and various business units.
- Strong analytical thinking and willingness to learn
- Strong team player but capable of independent work
- Good communication skills (both written and verbal) in English
