Job Summary

Rock Petroleum is seeking a diligent and experienced Marine Superintendent to oversee the operational aspects of our maritime activities. The Marine Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring compliance with maritime regulations, managing vessel maintenance, and optimizing efficiency in marine operations.

Job Responsibilities

As the Marine Superintendent, your responsibilities will include:
  1. Vessel Operations Oversight: Overseeing the operational aspects of vessel activities, including scheduling, routing, and coordination of marine operations.
  2. Safety and Compliance: Ensuring compliance with maritime regulations, international standards, and company policies related to vessel operations, safety, and environmental protection.
  3. Vessel Maintenance Management: Coordinating and managing vessel maintenance, repairs, and inspections. Ensuring timely and effective maintenance to maintain vessel seaworthiness and operational reliability.
  4. Crew Management Support: Providing support to crew management activities, including crew deployment, training, and certification. Ensuring compliance with crewing regulations and standards.
  5. Cargo Handling Coordination: Coordinating cargo loading, stowage, and discharge operations. Liaising with relevant parties to ensure efficient and safe cargo handling procedures.
  6. Emergency Response Preparedness: Developing and implementing emergency response plans and procedures for marine incidents. Conducting drills and exercises to test emergency preparedness and response capabilities.
  7. Risk Management: Identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with marine operations, including navigation risks, weather risks, and security risks.
  8. Vendor Coordination: Liaising with vendors, suppliers, and service providers involved in marine operations, such as port authorities, stevedores, and ship agents. Managing relationships and ensuring effective collaboration.
  9. Budget Monitoring: Monitoring and managing budgets for marine operations. Tracking expenses and implementing cost-saving measures to optimize operational efficiency.
  10. Performance Evaluation: Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to evaluate the performance of marine operations. Implementing corrective actions and process improvements as needed to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.


Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you should:
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in Marine Transportation, Naval Architecture, or a related field. Additional certifications or licenses, such as Master Mariner (Unlimited), are preferred.
  • Have at least 5-7 years of experience in marine operations, with a minimum of 2-3 years in a supervisory or managerial position.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of maritime regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Possess strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Exhibit excellent decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Be able to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities with attention to detail.
  • Have experience with budgeting, cost control, and financial management principles related to marine operations.
