We are looking to recruit a Marine Superintendent for a 12 month fixed term contract to be based in Milford Have, Pembrokeshire.

Outline Description of Role

To manage the day-to-day relationship between Svitzer and the Terminal Customers to ensure delivery of service to the required standards of safety and efficiency.

This is a 12 month fixed term contract

Functions:

Primary
  • Proactively support Svitzer in its commitment to safety, ensuring that all operations are risk assessed, adequately resourced and conducted in accordance with Health, Safety and Environment legislation and Svitzer procedures and that permits and licences are in place.
  • Proactive, effective day to day leadership and management of a team of 36 Svitzer staff to ensure they are motivated and supported in delivering to the highest standards. Be accountable for the performance of the crews within the operation, including the correct maintenance of all physical assets, on a daily basis.
  • Manage and be accountable for the shift roster through the shift supervisors.
  • Manage crew training and progression to ensure a robust and resilient operation
  • Manage all mooring and line boat operational issues in line with our customer contract.
  • Supported by HR and the Port Manager, manage the relationship with the local union branch, holding regular consultation meetings and resolving any disputes that may arise.
  • Proactively support Valero on the management of crews and daily use of a safe system of work for all Svitzer crew on site, including uploading necessary documentation.
Additional/Secondary
  • Work with the Port Manager and HR Business Partners to recruit people with the relevant skills, qualifications and attributes to the business.
  • Work with Svitzer training team to ensure that all crews have up to date certification, including planning career progression and securing resources for training.
  • Work with Marine Standards to promote safe operations, quality assurance and security of the business.
  • Ensure all accidents are fully investigated and incident reports prepared;
  • Be able to handle disciplinary and grievance cases sensitively and effectively.
  • In conjunction with Port Manager and others, prepare forecasts, wages, budgets and financial plans for the Valero mooring operation;
  • To report back on a regular basis on the port's performance to key stakeholders.
Competences Required:

Essential

Strong leadership and management skills and demonstrable experience of leading teams up to 30 people.

Personable, approachable and with strong communication skills.

Results-focused, and able to show evidence of delivery, and of a constant desire to improve oneself and others.

Strength of character and resolve to enforce safety and other standards, often in challenging environmental conditions.

Desirable

Experience of working with Trade Unions - or other experience of working with multiple stakeholders.

Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment legislation in the marine and oil and gas sectors.

Comfortable with use of performance software tools.
