Job Description

This position requires the incumbent to relocate permanently to QC City.

Perform surveys on board sea going vessels, i.e., full inspection of ships' hold for suitability with respect to cleanliness, Draft Surveys, On/Off-hire surveys, Bunker Surveys, Damage Inspections.
  • Ship's draft survey
  • Barge draft survey
  • Ship's on/off hire survey
  • Pre-purchase survey on ocean going vessels
  • Bunker surveys
  • Ships hold cleaning consultant
  • Inspection of any ship's compartments
  • Supervision of load and stowing of cargos
  • Loading and lashing of deck cargos
  • Grain stability survey
  • Dead freight survey
  • Draft limitation calculations
  • Stevedore damage survey
  • Dock damage survey
  • Vessel damage survey
  • P & I survey
  • Owner's, Shipper's Charter's representative at loading/discharge
  • Inspection of refrigerated compartments
  • General cargo damage survey
  • Marine consultant for Agents, Shippers or Terminals
  • Any other related duties as required as assigned by the Company
Qualifications
  • Must have a minimum of 5 -10 years' experience in conducting Marine surveys
  • A minimum of post-secondary education (College diploma or University degree)
  • Must possess Canadian Foreign Going Master's Certificate
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
  • Capable of operating without being under close supervision
  • Superior organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
  • Extended hours and shift work are required.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
  • Ensures full compliance with the company's Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.
