As we continue to develop our marine activities, we are delighted to offer a unique opportunity to join our organisation as Marine Surveyor in our Reykjavik (Iceland) office.

Welcome to Bureau Veritas

With one of the world's strongest brands behind you, this is your opportunity to make a difference in a global and sustainable company. Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore is one of the world's leading classification societies, pioneering the safety and performance of new technologies since 1828. With 2,650 maritime experts active in 140 countries, we operate as a global network - while meeting our clients' needs locally through our regional marine operations, customer support, and technical centers. With a classed fleet of over 11,500 seagoing ships, Bureau Veritas is the largest classification society by number of assets. Our client relationships are built on service, transparency, and trust. We are supporting the maritime industry on its journey towards sustainability - notably addressing the two key challenges of decarbonization and digitalization.

Join an industry leader

At Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore Nordics you will become part of the interesting and highly international maritime community, where independence is valued and opportunities for personal and professional development and growth are provided. Your overall focus will be on conducting quality inspections of ships in service and marine equipment to determine their conformity with specified requirements, notably classification rules, international regulations (IMO), national regulations or industry standards, or to attest a given situation of a ship.

Your main responsibilities include:
  • Undertaking class and statutory surveys of ships in service following applicable classification rules and statutory regulations;
  • Carrying out ISM/ISPS audits and MLC inspections;
  • Performing inspections of marine equipment and materials at manufacturers;
  • Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring all survey and inspection reports and certificates are factual, objective, and submitted within the stipulated format and timeframe;
  • Participating to internal and external meetings;
  • Attending scheduled trainings (locally and overseas), with a vierw to achieving specified delegations as agreed in the individual Performance and Development Process.
Whay will make you successful in Bureau Veritas?

We imagine that you have a degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or similar, with a minimum of five years of relevant work experience as a field surveyor in classification society (IACS member), technical superintendent/vessel manager in a ship management company, certified (chief) engineer or navigation (deck) officer at sea, technical project manager for ship newbuiding or repair, or a combination of these. It is an advantage to have experience as an ISM/ISPS, ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 auditor.

We are looking for someone who:
  • Has good IT skills;
  • Is proficient in spoken and written English and Icelandic;
  • Holds a valid residence permit for Iceland;
  • Is available to travel on short notice and accept short to mid-term abroad assignments as required;
  • Is prepared to work outside normal business hours and occasionally on weekends.
As a person, you are structured, quality driven and solution-oriented, while remaining detail-oriented. You are committed to doing your job well and have a "can-do" attitude. It is important that you can work independently as well as in a team and hence have communication skills to navigate both settings.
