Position Summary:

The Marine Technician, Level II will maintain a safe, diligent operation and maintenance of the Engines, Generators, Engine room and all compartments including washrooms. Marine Technicians, Level II will provide maintenance regarding overall Ship maintenance. Marine Technicians, Level II will also assist and oversee passenger loading and unloading.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide amazing hospitality to guests and coworkers as prescribed in our RESPECT Service
  • Follow safety procedures in order to ensure the protection of passengers and the vessel
  • Handle lines to moor vessels to pier when necessary
  • Maintain the Engines, Generators, Engine room and all compartments including washrooms
  • Frequent inspection of machinery and bathrooms to ensure proper operating conditions
  • Manage the replacement of any machinery and plumbing when required
  • Responsible for adding fresh water to vessel and pumping out any waste during vessel service
  • Regularly monitor battery levels, fluid, and clean strainers
  • Maintain clean and safe engine room (clean up and fix any spills, drips, and/or leaks), escalating any issues to the Master
  • Record all observations in Logbook as well as note and relay to the Master any changes in readings, levels, or condition
  • Ensures the safe and reliable operation of all vessels, systems, machinery, and equipment under his/her care with due regard for the Safety Management System (SMS), and proper standards of watchkeeping, and in accordance with practice of good seamanship
  • Routinely inspects all areas of the vessels, stages, dock, and marine railway for unsafe conditions, and assists in accident investigations and reports
  • Participates in emergency drills in accordance with Transport Canada regulations, the Safety Management System.
  • Participate in navigational training and steerage to develop for new opportunities
  • Sweep, mop, and wash down decks and exterior to remove dirt, and debris, using brooms, mops, brushes, and hoses
  • Load or unload materials from vessels; gather and remove trash from vessel
  • Service, clean, and supply restrooms
  • Be prepared to begin work at scheduled time
  • Maintain uniform and personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards
  • Additional job duties as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications:
  • O.S.S.D. or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education
  • Relevant Marine Emergency Duties training certificate (training provided)
  • Must hold a qualified passport to be able to enter the United States
  • Must be able to effectively understand and convey written and verbal information to guests and coworkers
  • Must possess a service orientation - actively looking for ways to help others
  • Energetic and enthusiastic personality essential
  • If required, wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. non-slip shoes, gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection)
  • Walk, stand, sit and work in all types of weather conditions for extended periods
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 50 pounds (23 kilograms)
  • Will be required to be available for work on all major holidays
