HDR is hiring a Senior Coastal Engineer in our Jacksonville, FL office to join our team of nationally ranked professionals.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis, modeling and design of coastal resilience projects including sea level rise infrastructure assessments; coastal numerical modelling; shoreline protection projects including revetments and living shorelines; and navigation projects including dredging, marinas, and harbors
  • Prepare scope, schedule and fee estimates to support proposal development.
  • Perform staff mentoring
  • Project management
Preferred Qualifications

  • 12+ years of relevant experience (i.e. consulting, construction, research, etc.)
  • Desire to work on national and international projects.
  • BS degree in Civil, Coastal, or Ocean Engineering; Oceanography, Coastal Geology, Meteorology or similar engineering/science disciplines
  • MS or PhD degree in engineering
  • Strong academic and/or professional experience with coastal processes, sea level rise, numerical modeling, metocean analysis, or oceanography
  • Experience preparing technical reports.
  • Demonstrated experience with coastal and marine models such as: MIKE 21, Mike 3, Delft 3D, ADCIRC, SWAN, and USACE-developed models.
  • Strong data analysis skills including the application of MATLAB, Python, etc. to analyzing large data sets.
  • Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
  • Familiarity with wave growth and transformation, coastal and estuarine hydrodynamics, littoral processes, and sediment transport.
  • A keen interest in interdisciplinary architecture, transportation, and water projects
  • Experience with the application of artificial intelligence software to coastal and marine modeling
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent field
  • A minimum of 10 years Water Resources experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • HEC-1, HEC-RAS, GEO-RAS, Storm CAD, Haested Methods
  • Experience in water resources planning, hydrology/hydraulics and drainage/flood control design
  • Familiarity with DOT drainage design criteria
  • Experience in FEMA studies a plus
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
