Vacancy Intro

Royal HaskoningDHV Singapore Pte. Ltd. provides consultancy services across various engineering disciplines through our business lines: Water & Maritime (W&M), Industry & Buildings (I&B) and Mobility & Infrastructure (M&I). The Advisory Group (AG) Water Singapore is currently seeking a Senior Coastal Engineer with expertise in coastal engineering and climate adaptation related projects, ideally based in Singapore.

Given the expanding portfolio of climate adaptation, coastal engineering, and flood resilience services in Singapore, AG Water Singapore seeks to appoint a Senior Coastal Engineer to lead and provide support on coastal and climate-risk related projects. This individual will offer expert consultancy, engineering and design input for substantial and complex climate adaptation projects while leading project teams.
What will you do

The Senior Coastal Engineer will assume Project Manager responsibilities or work closely with an assigned Project Manager/Director, oversee the project's overall budget and progress, and provide expert input and guidance to more junior colleagues. The Senior Coastal Engineer will internally act as the Climate Adaptation Lead and provide expertise in coastal engineering and climate adaptation. Responsibilities include technical feasibility studies, Environmental Impact Assessments, and design services for coastal and climate adaptation projects. The role involves interacting with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural project teams across various countries, ensuring quality and planning standards meet client expectations. The successful candidate will supervise and guide project teams, facilitate knowledge transfer, support new opportunities, and provide technical input to proposals.

The Senior Coastal Engineer is expected to successfully:
  • Demonstrate thought leadership in coastal engineering and climate adaptation.
  • Demonstrate their experience with coastal engineering design methodologies.
  • Show specific climate risk experience, particularly relating to flood risk.
  • Provide top-level coastal engineering, coastal adaptation and land reclamation expertise.
  • Offer technical guidance to the multi-disciplinary sub-project teams and junior consultants.
  • Monitor the quality, planning, and budget of the project components under their responsibility.
Furthermore, the following backgrounds or experiences will be deemed relevant:
  • Proficiency in geospatial data processing and modeling using tools such as Microsoft Excel, R, and Python.
  • Knowledge of numerical modeling tools such as MIKE, Delft3D, and similar software.
  • Understanding of and experience in flood modeling.
Where you will work

The Senior Coastal Engineer will be based in Singapore, working from our office or partner offices. Flexible arrangements are possible but must meet project and client needs, such as data confidentiality requiring secure environments. Project support may extend beyond Singapore to cover broader interests of Royal HaskoningDHV in APAC or globally.
What you bring

Requirements for the role:
  • More than 8 years of experience in coastal engineering and climate adaptation projects.
  • An MSc or comparable academic background in Coastal Engineering or related studies.
  • Experience in land reclamations and coastal modelling is also advantageous.
  • The successful candidate must effectively combine their expertise with leadership abilities to oversee multi-disciplinary coastal engineering projects within Singapore and potentially across multiple countries in South-East Asia.
  • Experience in international projects, particularly within Asia and Singapore, is essential.
  • Proficiency in English is mandatory.
  • Ideally, candidates should already reside in Singapore and possess valid working rights. However, an employment pass visa will be considered for the right candidate.
What we offer you

You will work in a professional multinational organization with engaging international projects and products. You will join a team of motivated and supportive colleagues from around the world, where collaboration and mutual respect are core values. Specifically, you will work on our climate and coastal adaptation projects in Singapore and act as a focal point for modeling and business opportunities.
