OVERALL PURPOSE OF ROLE: The Offshore superintendent role covers, based on the experience, mainly the function of Offshore Manager/Deputy Offshore manager in the offshore installation sites, with a partial involvement as Installation Engineer in the office work. KEY DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES Marine Operation Superintendent in the offshore installation sites This part of the role covers the operative execution on all marine installation sites activities for the implementation of a Project. The activity is carried out mainly on installation vessels or more in general, on other marine installation sites, such as landing points, offshore platforms, etc. He/She works in teams of different dimensions depending on the work importance and complexity. Main activities falling under the responsibility of the Superintendent, are including but not limited to: <ul><li>Preliminary works, such as route clearance, PLGR, pre-lay burial runs, mobilization of vessels</li><li>Cable loading</li><li>Cable laying</li><li>Cable burial with a wide variety of tools/machines</li><li>Cable pulling through HDD conduits or onto offshore platforms</li><li>Cable repair and jointing </li></ul>Once on site, duties and responsibilities of the Superintendent in the operative execution of cable installation works, include a full variety of aspects: <ul><li>Technical/Quality, with regards to cable and equipment management and installation procedures, in compliance with specification and Project documentation</li></ul><ul><li>Health and Safety, for all personnel involved in the operations and reporting to the installation Team</li></ul><ul><li>Environment, as far as compliance with statutory and Company policy to preserve the environment and prevent pollution are concerned (not excluding suitable measures of standard practice)</li></ul><ul><li>Company Asset Care, for preliminary verification of test/certification, correct use during operations and respect of predefined maintenance for all assets, from the vessels and burial/subsea machines to all installation equipment and tools</li></ul><ul><li>Define, select, prepare installation assets (vessels, burial machines, general installation equipment) </li></ul><ul><li>Project constraints and specification, as far as the specific Contract clauses are concerned</li></ul><ul><li>Operative Schedule, in terms of efficiency and respect of plans</li></ul><ul><li>Client relationship care, with the Client Representatives present on site</li></ul><ul><li>Supervision of Subcontractors during the installation phase (including once more all above aspects, Technical, Quality, HSE, Contract, etc)</li></ul><ul><li>Interface with Installation Department Management and other Company Departments, mainly Project Management, Manufacturing, System Engineering, Quality, in terms of regular, suitable and correct reporting.</li></ul>Installation Engineer in the office work This activity can be called Detailed Engineering for project specific installation works. Tasks are conducted in coordination with other colleagues of Installation Department and with other functions such as System Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management, Quality, purchasing with the aim of supporting the execution of the submarine systems projects awarded to Prysmian. Duties and responsibilities are including but not limited to: <ul><li>Support the preparation of installation documentation for the project execution (usually called "Installation Manual").</li></ul><ul><li>Support the subcontractor selection, starting from the preparation of specification to be used as technical documents in the request for quotation. </li></ul><ul><li>Interact with project Clients, mainly on technical, planning, operative aspects, in conference telecommunications or direct meetings </li></ul><ul><li>Prepare As-built documentation during project completion phase (usually called "Final Reports"), mainly gathering all reports, records, certificates, quality documents, etc issued throughout the project execution from all operative sites. </li></ul>The duties contained in this job description are not exhaustive and the job holder may be asked by management to undertake reasonable duties associated with this function Function requires significant travel on an international basis. On completion of your OOW(Basic) course you will spend time aboard a navy ship getting platformed endorsed and putting your new skills into practice, or commence your tertiary studies if you are entering on the University scheme of training. This on-the-job training is aimed at preparing you in a practical sense for the OOW(Advanced) course. You will also progress your OOW task book which is a written record of your progress, training and development. The OOW(A) course is 16 weeks and covers navigation, bridgemanship and training in basic warfare skills. On completion of that you will then return to sea to get qualified by completing the task book and gaining your OOW (A) Certificate or, if posted to a Frigate, an OOW (Warfare) Certificate. You will then post as a qualified Officer of the Watch to complete your core job as an Officer of the Watch on any naval ship. Royal Navy Exchange There is currently an exchange program in place with the Royal Navy, with which you could be posted to one of the survey ships of the UK Navy for a two year period. This is a great opportunity to gain more surveying experience, as well as travelling to locations in which the RNZN rarely operates. 03 Ongoing Training Ongoing Training International Hydrographic Organisation CAT-B Once you have consolidated your OOW training, you will head to HMAS PENGUIN in Sydney or HMS Drake in the UK to conduct your first Hydrographic Surveying course. The H2 Course is accredited as a FIG(International Federation of Surveyors)/IHO Category 'B' Hydrographic Surveying Course. The course is designed to provide students with the theoretical and practical knowledge required to carry out surveying tasks ashore and afloat. On successful completion of the H2 Course, students will be awarded a Certificate of Completion and will be graded as a Hydrographic Surveyor Grade 2. Prior to the award of the FIG/IHO Category B qualification all students are required to complete a Field Proficiency and Experience Competency Log. To consolidate your skills, you will likely be posted into a Hydrographic Surveying role in the Auckland region. This will involve short term survey activities which could include beach surveys, small boat operations, use of autonomous vehicles (underwater and aerial), offshore surveying on a ship, and participating in international exercises, both within NZ and overseas. Internation Hydrographic Organisation CAT-A Once you have become more senior, normally around the 10 year point in your career you will be able to conduct further Advanced Hydrographic Surveying training in the form of the H1 course held at HMS DRAKE in Plymouth, UK. This is another 6 month course and gives you the skills and qualifications to be able to be in charge of a Hydrographic Survey. This course also gives you an equivalent civilian qualification in the form of a post-graduate diploma in Hydrographic Surveying. 04 Career Progression Career Progression Early in your career you will spend the majority of time at sea for a period of around 2 years, and will be posted to various ships alongside your Warfare Officer course mates. AIS is recruiting Marine Biologists to work at sea collecting and recording data and biological samples for the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC) aboard commercial fishing vessels. The primary goals of the governments fishery observation programs are to provide quantitative biological, vessel, and gear-selectivity information for the New England and Mid-Atlantic fishery. Biologists work on deck on vessels ranging from 20' to 100' on trips roughly ranging from 7 to 14 days collecting data on fish catch and discard and incidental takes such as marine mammals, seabirds and marine turtles. After attending a 3-week paid training that be administered in person in Falmouth, MA biologists are deployed from ports throughout New England and Mid-Atlantic states. Gear types assessed include, but limited to, trawl, and gillnet. Accommodations and meal reimbursement during in person session of training are provided. Training includes instructions on sampling protocols, gear, fisheries, fish identification, marine mammal/sea turtle identification, and safety. This is a challenging job, and candidates must be mentally prepared to be away from home for multiple days, and must be physically able to handle heavy lifting, working odd hours, and long days in rough seas. Observing provides an excellent career in marine biology, as biologists are widely recognized as being excellent field biologists. A broad range of advancement opportunities are available to those who demonstrate appropriate capabilities. Those opportunities include, but are not limited to, project management, field supervisors, and fieldwork in other programs. Compensation: Biologists' starting pay is $20.25/hour. Dependent on enrollment in our H&amp;W benefit, biologists may also be eligible for an additional $4.57/hour for the first 40 hours worked on each calendar week for a total of $24.82 hour. This is a full-time position with benefits. Annually, biologists earn between $35K - $55K a year dependent on their availability to deploy offshore and their personal sea day accomplishments. Biologists will be paid a minimum of 12 hours for each calendar day offshore and are also eligible for additional compensable activities while on land.
