[What the role is] You will be part of a team of marine professionals under MPA's Shipping Division, involved in developing international and domestic shipping regulations, standards and policies, to ensure the safety and security as well as environmental sustainability of the Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS) and domestic harbour craft fleet. After attending a three-week (in person) paid training in Seattle, WA from 2/24/25 to 3/14/2025, biologists are deployed from ports throughout Alaska. Training includes instructions on sampling protocols, gear types, fisheries, fish identification, marine mammal/seabird/crab identification, and safety. Observing is an excellent career in marine biology, as Biologists are widely recognized as strong, capable field biologists. However, this is a challenging job. As an experienced professional, you are expected to work independently and with minimal supervision, with extensive relevant experience that includes the following: <ul> <li>A good understanding of numerical modelling equations and discretisation, 2D mesh generation</li> <li>Experience using numerical modelling software such as MIKE, Delft3D, OpenFOAM, ADCIRC, and Telemac, with proven applications in relevant fields. This experience might include modelling hydrodynamics, multiphase flows, particle tracking, advection dispersion, water quality, and chemical processes. Ideally, you will also have a basic understanding of physico-chemical water quality and the associated regulatory standards for fresh and/or marine waters.</li> <li>Experience with Linux,scripting languages such as Python/R,MIKE ECO-lab would also be an advantage.</li> <li>Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience to liaise with a broad range of stakeholders where you will be working closely with clients, and other professional staff across multi-disciplinary business groups.</li> </ul>We are proud of our culture.
