R/V Sikuliaq, pronounced [see-KOO-lee-auk], is a 261-foot oceanographic research ship capable of bringing scientists to the ice-choked waters of Alaska and the polar regions. Sikuliaq, one of the most advanced university research vessels in the world, is able to break ice up to 2.5 feet thick. Constructed in Marinette, Wisconsin, Sikuliaq is homeported in Seward, Alaska, at UAF's Seward Marine Center. We are currently accepting applications for licensed temporary marine engineering positions including 2nd Assistant Engineer, and 3rd Assistant Engineer. These temporary relief positions will fill in while the permanent crew are on shore, and applications will be reviewed on an as-needed basis. Relief Marine Engineer - 2AE and 3AE - R/V Sikuliaq (Temporary)

R/V Sikuliaq, pronounced [see-KOO-lee-auk], is a 261-foot oceanographic research ship capable of bringing scientists to the ice-choked waters of Alaska and the polar regions. Sikuliaq, one of the most advanced university research vessels in the world, is able to break ice up to 2.5 feet thick. Constructed in Marinette, Wisconsin, Sikuliaq is homeported in Seward, Alaska, at UAF's Seward Marine Center. We are currently accepting applications for temporary marine engineering positions including a Marine Electrician. The temporary Marine Electrician will fill in while the regular Marine Electrician is on shore. Applications will be reviewed on an as-needed basis. Applicants should possess strong skills as a marine electrician, especially in the areas of troubleshooting, new installations, and upkeep of existing equipment. The successful applicant should have experience working with shipboard electrical systems, and an understanding of and experience with VOM, megger, and amp meters. The successful applicant will also possess an understanding of shipboard operations, the ability to operate machines and hand tools safely, and math and computer skills. The electrician must also have the ability to read blueprints of electrical/electronic equipment on board with the ability to make changes as required. The electrician must have experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and electronic controls, knowledge of variable frequency drives, and knowledge of electrical safe practices. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse personnel. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must possess the following: a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner's Credential endorsed as QMED and Able Seafarer- Engine (STCW). Applicants must have all applicable training as required by the Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers. The temporary QMEDs will fill in while the regular crew are on shore, and applications will be reviewed on an as-needed basis. Strong mechanical problem solving skills and the ability to be at sea for extended periods of time are required. Operational understanding of fuel oil bunkering procedures and emergency response, safe usage of basic machine and hand tools, basic math and computer skills. Knowledge of basic good seamanship practices (knots, line-handling, general shipboard maintenance and care, preparation/preservation of steel surfaces, operation of deck equipment, winches, etc). Ability to work with a diverse group of people including scientists, ship's crew and technicians. Candidates should have experience working in the engine room of a ship, experience with a wide range of vessel systems and their proper operation, and experience with and practice of good safety procedures. About Musqueam We are traditional hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ speaking people. Today, we are a strong, growing community of over 1,300 members. We live on a small portion of our traditional territory, known as the Musqueam Indian Reserve, located south of Marine Drive near the mouth of the Fraser River. The name Musqueam relates back to the River Plant, the name of the plant is məθkʷəy̓. There is a story that has been passed on from generation to generation that explains how we became known as the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) - People of the River Plant. We have always moved throughout our territory using the resources it provides for fishing, hunting, trapping and gathering. We remain distinct and our cultural practices are strong, despite the devastating impacts of residential schools, colonial laws banning our ceremonies, and other attempts to assimilate our people. Our lands and waters continue to support our cultural and economic practices while serving as a source of knowledge and memory, encoded with our teachings and laws. The AFO also provides public education and awareness of the various fisheries, their cultural importance, the resource limitations and conservation practices. Roles &amp; Responsibilities <ul><li>Maintains community fish distribution, with the resources available;</li><li>Conducts monitoring on the water; often on short notice;</li><li>Develops reports on monitoring, sampling, and departmental affairs as required;</li><li>Answers questions and queries from the Musqueam community</li><li>Conducts interviews and/or inspections in the field through communicating, educating, and interviewing;</li><li>Maintains ongoing contact with other MIB departments, and other external governmental and non-governmental contacts;</li><li>Provides education and advice to fishers on the types and species of fish they are legally allowed to use, gear and restrictions, time and area, and improvements they could make; </li><li>Collects and records information on hours worked on fisheries or habitat related activities such as: sites inspected; checks of vessels, persons, or vehicles; actions taken; and other administrative duties for planning use by the Commission;</li><li>Maintains fisheries licenses logs; fisheries data logs and provides reports per MIB Fisheries to the Fisheries Manager per fishery;</li><li>Reviews and makes sound analysis on referrals, and makes recommendations accordingly;</li><li>Develops and maintains effective working relationships with colleagues and individuals from outside agencies;</li><li>Keep up-to-date on the developing Fisheries Program via job shadowing the Senior Aboriginal Fisheries Officer;</li><li>Taking pertinent courses;</li><li>Assists in training courses for new recruits, colleagues, individuals from other agencies and public organizations; and</li><li>Other related duties as required.</li></ul>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <ul><li>Successful completion of High School Diploma, or equivalent, or post-secondary education.
