Job Description Purpose We are seeking a marine environmental economist to join the 'CUPIDO: Calculating the strength of the plastic pump in counteracting the deep export of oceanic carbon' research programme, which has been funded through a UK Research Innovation Future Leader Fellowship to Dr Clara Manno. CUPIDO aims to identify the biological mechanisms that facilitate the export of plastic from the surface to the deeper layers of the ocean and to quantify the impact of this export on the ability of the ocean to uptake carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The postholder will work within the British Antarctic Survey Ecosystems team, which includes scientists involved in studies of zooplankton dynamics and their role in biogeochemical processes, and the impact of environmental stressors on the operation of the ecosystem. As a member of the BAS Ecosystems Team, you'll work alongside internationally recognised experts in a collaborative, supportive environment that values innovation, creativity, and scientific excellence. You'll have unrivalled access to high-quality datasets, mentorship, and field opportunities that will accelerate your research career. The post holder will work on plastic pollution in Antarctica, in terms of how plastics move through the socio-ecological system, where interventions are most needed, and how policy performance can be improved. The successful candidate will be highly experienced in marine plastic pollution and/or the ocean environmental economy. After attending a three-week (in person) paid training in Seattle, WA from (2/23/26 - 3/13/26), biologists are deployed from ports throughout Alaska. Observing is an excellent career in marine biology, as Biologists are widely recognized as strong, capable field biologists. However, this is a challenging job. Job Purpose The Resident Marine Biologist / /Dive Instructor (RMBDI) is a site-based position. The main goals of this position are threefold: 1). Interact with clients about marine life, 2). Furthermore, the RMBDI will coordinate the conservation diving program of Galaxea and implement this program throughout Galaxea. You will be client-facing and will take responsibility for technical project delivery and business development, reporting to the Marine Ecology Lead. What your new role will entail; <ul><li>Be a Subject Matter Expert: you will provide technical marine ecological and marine consenting advice, internally and externally. You will direct inputs to a wide range of workstreams and deliverables across a broad range of projects including involvement in the full EIA or DCO development cycle of major projects. You will be delivering marine ecology impact assessments including ES chapters and associated assessments (HRA, MCZ and WFD) and information to support the full range of licence and permitting applications needed for marine based projects.</li><li>Ensure Quality: your role requires a critical eye for detail to ensure that our deliverables are produced to the highest quality standards and compliance with our rigorous quality management procedures. You will have excellent writing and communication skill, able to tailor complex scientific information for different audiences.</li><li>Collaborate: you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to improve the environmental outcomes of our projects - this will include specialists in underwater acoustics, coastal processes, water scientists and marine archaeologists, as well as EIA colleagues.</li><li>Growth and business development: you will contribute to our work winning for the marine ecology team. This will include developing technical and fee proposals, as well as more general marketing and business development. You will have the confidence to present to internal and external audiences and contribute to client liaison.</li><li>Project Management: you will be an effective project manager, appropriately managing resources and budgets, and reporting on progress internally and to clients. (Including Project Management training to become an AECOM accredited PM).
